The Policy of containment was a direct action from America to restrict the spread of Communism. This contributed to the Cold war as it further established the two major oppositions and their clash of idealogies. -

This a significant event during the Cold war as it indicated the beginning of a Communist dominated country. Essentially giving full support to Russia and opposing the ideology of America. -
Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was constructed on August 1961 by the German democratic republic. It was a major structure during the Cold war as it restricted Western Berliners from migrating to East Berlin. During 1949 and 1959 2 million people had left West Berlin in favor of the freedom that democracy provided. The wall also represented a physical structure of the “Iron Curtain” that separated the West European countries from the East communist countries. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban missile Crisis was a 13-day indirect confrontation between the Soviet Union the United States. A cliamtic point of the Cold war, it was considered as an event that was extremely close to Nuclear warfare. The United states had taken action against the Soviet Union as they were providing Cuba with Nuclear weapons to establish a strategic advantage. -
The Prague Spring
The Prague Spring was brief period in which Alexander Dubček the president of Czechoslovakia wanted to democratise the nation. This was a point in which Alexander supported the idelogy of the United States while opposing the influence of Moscow. -
Signing of the first SALT treaty
The signing between Richard Nixon and Leonid Brezhnev. This was a major event in the cold war as it indicated a decrease in tension and ultimately an agreement to the restriction and threat of Nuclear warfare. -
