  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860
    The election was held on Tuesday November 6th 1860. The U.S. had been seperated during the 1850's due to the slavery issue between the north and the south. This issue seperated the democratic party into the northern southern parts. The republican party dominated the north and got most of the electoral votes, putting lincoln in the White House.
  • South Carolina secedes

    South Carolina secedes
    The meeting had been called by the governor and legislature of South Carolina once Lincoln's victory was for sure. Delegates were elected on December 6, 1860, and the meeting ended on December 17. This made South Carolina the first state to secede.
  • Virginia Secedes

    Virginia Secedes
    On Febuary 13th 1861 delegates in Virginia met to decide what to do about the state due to the recent events, especially Lincolns's election and South Carolina seceding. The voted to stay in the Union hoping that all these issues will come to an end. Exactly 2 months later since it didn't change, they voted to secede which could've changed if they stayed, determining wht war we could've had if they stayed.

    The Emancipation Proclamation waas designed by President Abraham Lincoln. It stated "ll persons held as slaves shall be then forever free" But it only applied to border slave states like, Delaware, Kentecky, Maryland, and Missouri or to the areas that the Union took from the confederacy.

    President Abraham Lincoln said "Vicksburg is the key, the war can never be brought to an end until the Mississippi river is closed off." The Confederacy was basically cut in half.
  • Gettysburg

    Robert E Lee's soldiers crossed the Potomac River in Virginia and began to march towards the Susquehana River in Pennsylvania. The battle started on July 1st 1863 and ended July 3rd

    The Draft Riots occured in New York city. It was people that thought that it was unfair to send them to war because the rich could hire people to go in their place and avoid the draft. They were mainly Irish, they attacked any black person they could've found. 120 people in total dead and 2000 were wounded.

    The Gettysburg Address was read in public on November 19th 1863 It was read and presented for the fallen soldiers that died fighting in the war. Lincon in his speech said that it was not just about saving the Union but for all peoples equality.

    The battle of Fort Stedman also known as "Battle of Hare's Hill. The Confederate soldiers sieged a line around Petersburg,Virginia was attcked in plain daylight by troops lead by Confederate General John B. Gordon

    Battle of For Blakely Took place in Alabama. General Edward Canby's troops concentrated on the spanish fort. The Confederacy held up with 4000 men but finally fell on April 9th 1865

    On Palm Sunday Lee's surrender at Appotmattox courthouse. Viginia signaled the end of the southen states attempt to seperate the nation. It set the stage for the emergence of an expanded and more powerful Federal government.
