A Statement is Issued

President Abraham Lincoln issued a statement saying that as of January 1, 1863, an Emancipation Proclamation would be in effect.

John Hunt Morgan

Jul 8, 1863

In 1863, John Hunt Morgan disobeyed the rules and led about 2000 men over the Ohio River on horseback into Southern Indiana.

Confederates are Toppled

Apr 1, 1865

The Confederate army was hopelessly outnumbered by the Union army.

Robert E, Lee

Apr 9, 1865

Confederate General Robert E. Lee deicided to forfeit the war, and Union troops Ulysses S. Grant accepted his surrender at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia.
