  • The south secedes

    The south secedes
    When Abrham Lincoln became president, South Carolina legislature made a threat to scede. At the convention, the delegates voted to remove South Carolina from the union. After 6 more states left which was: Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, georgia, Louisana, and Texas. Then Virgina. Arkansas, Tennesse, and North Carolina left. They formed the confederate States of America.
  • The first shots at Fort Sumter

    The first shots at Fort Sumter
    South Carolina seceded from the union. President Lincoln orderd a relief expedition to sail to supply the south troops but only if the south would fire first. Genersl Beauregard evacuated but soon realized troops were going to starve, so he fired.

    At Shiloh,Tennesse the confderate forces attacked union forces, by the end of the day, the federal were almost defeated. But, during the night reinforcements arrived, and in the moring the umiom commanded the field, Confderate forces retreated and the federal forces didn't folllow. 13,000 out of 63,000 union soliders died.

    As the country entered the third year of the cival war President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.It states 'all persons held as slaves,,,shall be then,thencefoward,and forever free.' But it did not apply to the slave-holding boder states,Delaware,Kentucky,Maryland,Missouri.
  • The battle of Vicksburg

    The battle of Vicksburg
    May 18 to July 4, Ulysses S. Grant's army converged on Vicksburg. Grant invested and entrapped a confederate army uner Lt. Gen. John Pemberton. On july 4th, Vicksburg surrendered after prolonged seige opertaion. Because of pembertons lost, the confederacy was effectivly split in half.

    In southern Pennslyvania, confederate army of Northern Virginia general Robert E. Lee and Federate army general George G. Meade. The north attacked across the river twice in the battle of Fredricksburg. General Lee planned to take the war North and it would allow the Virgina farmers to harvest their crops for the confederacy.

    The most famous speech of president Lincoln states that the principles of human equality espoused by the Decleration Of Independence which refined the civil war " a new birth of freedom" that could bring equality to all of the union's citizens.

    because many men were recruiting an act was passed making all men ages 20 to 45 liable to be called for military services.Although service could be avoided b paying or finding a sub. This was not fair to the poor so the poor caused riots.
  • The battle of Cold Harbor

    The battle of Cold Harbor
    grant attacked the Confederate forces at Cold harbor. Lee's army lost 7,000 men in 20 minutes. Lee's army never recoverd from Grant's continual attacks.
  • Lee surrenders to Grant

    Lee surrenders to Grant
    Robert E.Lee general of North Virginia gave confderate forces to Grant and the Union army. Lee's army tried to escape the west so he could team up with another confderate army. As they were moving towards Lynchburg,virginia the union army cut off Lee's bedraggled army. The army of North Virginia was getting smaller so, on April 7 Grant reached out to Lee asking for his surrender.
