  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was passed in 1764 by the British Government. The purpose of this legislator was to get money from the colonists to help pay for the debt created by the French and Indian war. It was also created to address the issue of colonists smuggling sugar into the colonies. The act taxed sugar, syrup, and molasses when it was imported to the Colonies. It also gave the British Government the right to inspect anything that was being imported to the colonies in search of sugar.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act made it so that all colonists paid taxes and that they all paid the same amount. This was done to help the British Government pay off their debt from the French and Indian war.The colonists did not like this because they thought that it was unfair that the poor and rich paid the same amount of taxes. Also, they did not like taxation without representation.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act forced colonists to house and feed British soldiers. The act was created because there was not sufficient housing for soldiers. Colonists did not like this policy since a lot of them could barley afford to feed their family let alone a group of British Soldiers.
  • The Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act
    The Townshend Act, passed June 29, 1767, allowed the British government to tax certain items imported into the colonies. It also gave British soldiers military power to stop illegal smuggling of goods. It allowed them to search any shipments coming into the colonies and raid houses in search of illegally imported goods. This act was meant to be a more fare version of the stamp act however people living in the colonies still thought that the acts were not fair.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The Tea Act was passed to benefit the British tea company, East India. The British had repealed all other taxes but they wanted to help save their bankrupt tea company, East India. It also stated that tea can only be imported to the colonies by the East India Tea Company. The colonists did not like this because it meant a raise in the price of tea.

    Coercive/Intolerable Acts: Boston port Act
    The Boston Port act forced the citizens of Massachusetts to pay for all of the tea that was dumped during the Boston Tea Party. This was one of the "Intolerable Acts." The citizens, who could not afford to pay for the tea, considered this very unfair. It also closed Boston Harbor to any ships leaving it. The colonists' could not get ship anything out of the harbor.

    Coercive/Intolerable Acts: MA Government Act and the Administration of Justice Act
    This act was passed in order to restrict free assembly by citizens. This act was put in place after the Boston tea Party. The act stated that any meetings would have to be held with the governor.
  • Coercive/Intolerable Acts: Quebec Act

    Coercive/Intolerable Acts: Quebec Act
    The Quebec Act was passed to try to incorporate Quebec into the British Empire. It gave Quebec some land that had belonged to Native Americans and some land that is in modern day America. It also said that the Catholic Religion would be allowed in Quebec.
