    Berlin Olympics
    The 1936 Summer Olympics were hosted in Berlin, Germany. During the two weeks that they were held Germany was forced to hide their racist militaristic dictatorship and be friendly. They used the games to impress the media and make it seem like all was well and that a war wasn’t about to start. As soon as the games ended Germany sped up their expansionist policies and the Holocaust.
  • Hitler kicks off his anti Judism campaign

    By the end of 1938 anti-Jewish pogroms, or state-organized massacres, erupted all over Germany and Austria. Over twenty-thousand Jews were arrested and deported to concentration camps. Many were killed in the process. It was a tragic time for the Jews.
  • Germany and the Soviet Union sign a nonaggression agreement

    On August 23, 1939 Germany and The Soviet Union sign a nonaggression agreement and formed an alliance against whomever oppose them. They also signed a secret document that split up parts of Eastern Europe into spheres of influence. They weren’t about to let anyone stand in their way of achieving their goals.

    On September 1, 1939 the Nazis invaded Poland marking the beginning of World War 2 in Europe. Around two days later Great Britain and France declared war on Germany to honor their agreement on Poland’s borders. Little did anyone know this was the start of something big that would change the world forever.

    France and Great Britain joined the war after Germany invaded Poland. They realized that Germany was a rising superpower and that they were about to do a lot of damage. After they realized this they made a pact with Poland that they would help protect them if they were threatened.

    The government and military of Warsaw tried to fight against Germany for as long as they could but on September 6th, 1939 they ordered Warsaw to flee. Germany and the Soviet Union took over Poland and the war really took its course from there. They annexed Poland off and cut them off from the rest of the world.

    On September 10th ,1939 Canada declared war on Germany. They were declaring war in support of Great Britain and France. They rallied their forces and went overseas to help. Canada wanted to assert their independence from the UK by seeking approval from the federal parliament before they declared war on Germany.
  • The Soviet Union Forces Romania to cede parts of Bessarabia and the northern half of Bukovina to Soviet Ukraine

    The main goal of the Nazis was to obtain as much land as possible and on June 28, 1940 they gained even more land. The Soviets forced Romania to cede the eastern province of Bessarabia and the northern half of Bukovina to Soviet Ukraine. They were getting closer and closer to their goal.
  • Germany, Italy, and Japan sign the Tripartite pact

    On September 27, 1940 Axis powers are formed when Germany, Italy, and Japan become allies when they sign the Tripartite Pact in Berlin, Germany. This alliance was formed and aimed at “neutral” America, it was designed to make the US think twice before they made a move against any of the signing parties.;
  • Japan Bombs Peal Harbor

    On December 7, 1941 was the day that America truly decided to join the war. The Japanese decided to bomb Pearl Harbor, this left the naval base in ruins. This day marked the start of the end of the war, where the US will decide to bomb Japan and leave it devastated.
