    The Israelites Become Slaves

    The Israelites’ growth in Egypt worried the pharaoh. As a result, Hebrews became slaves of the Egyptians.
  • Moses Leads Israelites Back To Canaan

    Moses Leads Israelites Back To Canaan

    God tells Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses leads the Israelites out of Egypt. The journey the Israelites take is called the Exodus. Their journey lasts 40 years.
  • Saul Becomes King

    Saul Becomes King

    Saul becomes the first king of Israel. He has some triumph as a military commander. However, he isn’t a strong king.
  • David Becomes King

    David Becomes King

    David becomes king of Israel when he is 30 years old. Jerusalem is chosen as the capital. David brings all tribes together during his reign.
  • Solomon Becomes King

    Solomon Becomes King

    David’s son Solomon becomes king of Israel. He builds a great Temple of God in Jerusalem. The temple becomes the center of religious life and a symbol of their faith.
  • Israel Divides Into Two Kingdoms

    Israel Divides Into Two Kingdoms

    Solomon dies. Israel splits into two kingdoms called Judah and Israel due to conflicts. People in Judah are known as Jews.
  • Judah Is Captured

    Judah Is Captured

    Babylonians conquered Judah and enslave the people. They destroy Solomon’s Temple and capture Jerusalem.
  • Diaspora
    530 BCE

    Diaspora

    Persians conquered Chaldeans. They allowed Jews to go to Jerusalem. Some moved to different parts of Persian Empire. Spreading of Jews outside of Judah and Israel is called the Diaspora.
  • Maccabees Revolt
    160 BCE

    Maccabees Revolt

    Maccabees, a Jewish family, led a revolt. They were tired of foreign rule. The revolt was successful and the Jews were able to rule their own kingdom for a few more years.
  • Romans Conquer Jews

    Romans Conquer Jews

    The Jews are conquered by Romans. Taxes burden people. Romans had bo respect for the Jewish religion.
  • Revolt Against The Romans

    Revolt Against The Romans

    The Jews revolt. They are led by the Zealots, a very rebellious group of Jews. They were able to convince others to rebel against the Romans.
  • Destruction Of The Second Temple

    Destruction Of The Second Temple

    Romans demolish the Second Temple located in Jerusalem. Roman soldiers remove valuable objects and set them on fire. Jewish fighters defend their temple against the Roman soldiers but they were defeated.

    Romans capture the last of the Zealots in Masada. The Jewish revolt ends.
  • Jews Are Banned From Jerusalem

    Jews Are Banned From Jerusalem

    After the Jews rebel a second time, Romans keep them from living in Jerusalem. Roman officials proclaimed any Jew in or near Jerusalem would be killed. As a result, more Jewish people migrate to the Mediterranean region.
