    Because of the many acts passed by Parliament, there were many clashes with colonists and British soldiers. In March 1770, at Boston, Colonists were throwing snowballs and stones at British soldiers. The soldiers opened fire killing 5 Colonists.

    The Tea Act was passed by Great Britain, it taxed all imported tea from Britain. Colonists were angry, this caused the Boston Tea Party.

    Colonists threw cargo of British tea into the Boston harbor to protest the tax on tea. Because of this, Parliament passed harsh laws to punish the colonies who rallied to help Massachusetts.

    After the battles of Lexington and Concord, the Second Continental Congress met up to organize a Continental Army with George Washington command. They voted to declare independence from Britain.

    Written by Thomas Jefferson, it declared America and the colonists independence from Great Britain. It was written because of the acts passed by Great Britain and the violent battles of Lexington and Concord.

    Winter at Valley Forge

    The harsh winter at Valley Forge resulted in poor living conditions which put the Continental Army at a great disadvantage during the war, along with their lack of food and supplies.

    Washington forced the surrender of a British army at Yorktown, Virginia with the help of a French fleet. After this defeat, the British war effort crumbled.
  • U.S. Constitution Written

    U.S. Constitution Written

    It was written to improve the Articles of Confederation. Written by George Washington, James Madison, and Benjamin Franklin. The Constitution was the frame for a strong, flexible government.
  • U.S. Constitution Adopted

    U.S. Constitution Adopted

    The Constitution created a federal republic which divided the power between the nation government and the states. It also set up a checks and balances system, preventing the government from becoming too powerful, this established the 3 branches of government: the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Lastly, it contained the Bill of Rights which recognized that the government has to protect the citizens' rights.
