  • Writs of Assistance

    The writs of assistance began in 1751 The reason for the writs of assistance was that people were smuggling rum, sugar, and molasses.The writs of assistance is a search warrants granted to officials under British law. The search warrants were used in England for sometime before they were used in the American colonies.
  • Quarantining Act

    The Quarantining Act made it mandatory for all ships and crew to go through a quarantine of the ship’s cargo and crew to see if they were a threat to public health.
  • The Albany plan of Union

    The Albany plan of Union took place in 1754. The reason this became a plan was to place the British North American colonies under a more centralized government.
  • French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War resulted from ongoing tensions in North America as both French and British imperial officials and colonists sought to extend their land.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    In 1763, during the french and Indian war, the native americans decided to team up with the french because they were mad at the british for taking their homes. After the war, Britain declared the Proclamation of 1673 because they didn't want to fight the Native americans for land anymore. This made the British colonists upset because they wanted to use the land for farming.
  • Pontiac’s war

    In 1763-1766, the native americans were unhappy about the british postwar policies, so they attacked. 8 forts were destroyed, and hundreds of britons were killed or captured. It was named the Pontiac War after the leader of the native american tribe.
  • Sugar Act

    The sugar act was passed in 1764.The reason for the sugar act was because the british placed taxes on sugar, wine, and other important goods. They did this because they (the british) wanted more money.
  • Currency Act

    This act was passed to control the printing and use of money, to appease british merchants, and reduce national debt. The colonists suffered from a shortage of money, and they didn't do anything about it.
  • Committees of correspondence

    A committee of people sent letters to one another, talking about british rules. But, every time they criticized british law, they were breaking the law. More committees like this formed, and Parliament was getting upset. After a while, in 1764, they made free speech legal, and everyone was happy.
  • Stamp Act

    The stamp act was passed by the british parliament on March 22, 1765. The new tax was imposed on all american colonists and required that they pay taxes on everything.Ship's, papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed.
  • Policy of non-importation

    In 1765, British merchants and manufacturers were limited trade with the English. They were angry about this, so the british pressured Parliament to repeal the law. The boycotts collapsed.
  • Sons Of Liberty

    In early summer of 1765, the colonists were preparing for agitation against the Stamp Act. as an effect, a group called The Loyal Nine emerged to fight. In a result, the Stamp Act was discontinued.
  • Daughters Of Liberty

    At the same time as the Sons Of Liberty, the Daughters Of Liberty had also emerged. Many colonists were putting this together. They were less afraid than the sons.
  • Townshend Act

    The townshend act started in June of 1767. The reason for this act was to raise money for the government.
  • Boston Massacre

    The boston massacre was on March 5, 1770. The Sons of Liberty, a patriot group formed in 1765 to oppose the Stamp Act, advertised the Boston Massacre as a battle for American liberty.
  • Tea Act

    The tea act started on May 10, 1773. The reason for the tea act was to allow drawback on taxes made in previous acts.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    Colonists threw tea into the Boston Harbor. They did this because they didn't like the British tea taxes and to rebell against the british.
  • Coercive acts

    The Americans were being robbed of their civil liberties. As an effect, the American Revolutionary War began. The Americans had started lot of riots.
  • Quebec act

    The quebec act was was passed on June 22, 1774. The purpose was to establish religious freedom, and extend the quebec boundaries. However, some colonists had already moved into the area, so it wasn't a huge deal.
  • Continental Congress

    The americans wanted their own individual government. As an effect the american colonists had a sense of direction. That was the beginning, the beginning of a free country.
  • New England Restraining Act

    The New England Restraining Act was a policy that prohibited new England from trading with anyone else but Great Britain and the British West Indies.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Sam Adams and John Hancock were captured, spies and friends of the Americans leaked word of Gage's plan. The British were Planning to attack.
  • Second Continental Congress

    The professional imperial army was attempting to arrest patriot leaders, and minutemen had been killed in their defense. The Congress commissioned George Washington of Virginia to be the supreme commander.
  • The Battle Of Bunker Hill

    America was at war with itself, many colonists were put into refuge. Many soldiers were severely injured and/or killed.
  • Restraining act

    The restraining act was effective on July 1, 1775. It was just a ban on trades outside of britain.
  • Continental Army

    The Continental Army was a force of defense for the colonies.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    1775, the Continental Congress adopts the Olive Branch Petition by John Dickinson, who hoped desperately to avoid a final break with Britain, American colonists were unhappy with ministerial policy.
  • Prohibitory Act

    On December 22, 1775 parliament passed the Prohibitory Act, that said to blockade all of america's ports. This stoped of trade with the world for America.
  • Battle of Quebec

    The battle of quebec was a problem between the british kingdom and its 13 colonies. The british won.
  • Declaration of Independence

    June 7, 1776, the U.S Gov. was putting together a Declaration of Independents so the citizens would have something meaningful to go by. The colonists finally had a true country.
  • Militia

    Militia Acts of 1792 were passed in response to the overwhelming U.S. losses at St. Clair's Defeat. It was There was a cloud of fear that the Western Confederacy of American Indians.
