The theme of this story is that words and actions can really impact another person in both negative and positive ways! -
7 Tapes Mailed to Clay.
7 tapes 13 sides filled. Implying that clay must listen to all the tapes and pass them on your consiquences will arise. -
Surprise Beginning!
In the garage, he uses the radio on the work bench. He then discovers that the tapes were made by Hannah Baker and why him and others lead to her suicide. -
Tony's Walkman
To listen to majority of the tapes. Clay listened to the Walkman. He had stolen the Walkman from his friend Tony in the garage, of which Tony and his father were working on the car. Clay begins to face internal conflicts when listening to the tapes because he has no idea why Hannah chose him to recieve the tapes. -
Map From Clay's Locker
Within Clay's locker he finds a map that leads to places that are importance to Hannah's death. He feels extreme pain and sorrow when he travels to the locations of the past events. This is much internal conflict for Clay. -
Hannah's First Kiss
Justin Is Hannah's first kiss and also the first guy to actually get her number,but Justin turns it into a rumor that it was a sexual encounter in the park. They broke up after a month. -
Alex's List! +#4
A list created by Alex based on who's hot, who's not, leads to great conflict between friends and much disrespect directed towards Hannah. Some statements or actions may be a compliment but directed in a negative way. This event leads to Jessica striking Hannah In the future at Monet's where they sat to meet. -
Blue Spot Liquor
Hannah walks into the store where Wally (the cashier) is working and knows her as a regular customer. When suddenly a jerk from school came in and smacked her butt infront of Wally stateing, " Best a$$ in the Freshman Class, Wally. Standing right here in your store!" This enraged Hannah as well as it did Wally. -
Into Hannah's Tapes
On the 13 tapes Hannah had explained what each person said or did to cause her pain. Her classmates and friends have caused her to have external conflicts. Hannah begins to feel depressed, lost, torn apart, and much pain and agony. -
Stalker?!?
Hannah begins to feel unsafe as if her privacy is at risk. Almost everynight from her bedroom windows she hears, "click" as if a camera was snapping pictures of her. She eventually finds out that is was Tyler the school's photographer! -
The Moment.
Hannah had believed that it was Tyler the school's photographer that was stalking her and invading her privacy. So she wanted to catch this Peeping Tom! So she had a girl from her class stay the night with her to catch this guy. The girl decided to play off kinky and give the guy what he wants to catch his attention. So they could catch him off guard. So she massaged the girls back and had the camera really going "click" "click" The girl then was calling Hannah naughty pulling out all her stuff. -
Busted! Your Turn..
Hannah knew that it was Tyler peeping on her from him giving himself away and she returns the favor by making his recording outside of his bedroom window. She invades Tyler's privacy. SHe showed how he had taken away her safe place and her privacy and that he was wrong for what he had done. -
Miss Perfect
Courtney well known as the sweetest girl in school, but she started a rumor about Hannah after they attempted to stop the peeping tom. Courtney then uses Hannah to get a ride to a party and to help keep up her image, for theses reasons, Courtney is nice because she wants to be Most Liked in the yearbook. She doesn't truly care about Hannah, nor anyone else. -
Tyler's WIndow
Including Marcus Clay was the third person to arrive at Tylers house on the map. Because Tyler was a peeping Tom everyone looked at him as if he was the only bad guy. Alex had the idea of busting his window out with a rock, and that he did. Everyone before Clay had busted out Tyler's window. But Clay refuses claiming its not right we all are on the tapes for a reason... -
A Tease?
After the valentine's day program at school. The school has a quiz to find results to who could be a perfect match. Marcus gets Hannah on his list, so he asks her out. On their date Marcus tries to take advantage of her at Rosie's, where she pushed him away and he called her a tease loudly while leaving. This is where Hannah realizes she has no control over her life anymore and becomes depressed, seriously thinking about ending her own life. -
The Dare
Zach comes to comfot Hannah since Marcus had left. Come to find out that Zach was dared by his friends. SHe doesn't speak to him, so he leaves. Zach gets up set that she refuses to talk to him. So she confronts him in the hallways in tears. Hannah feels that the notes are truly the only contact she has left with her friends. -
Anonymous
In Peer Communication class, Hannah had left an anonymous note for her teacher that she is connsidering suicide. The class had talked about it, but one felt that because there was no name, it shouldn't be taken seriously. -
Neglect
Hannah is starting to see or maybe feel as if she is being neglected. Her parents, her so called friends, and everyone at school paid no attention. Even when Hannah cut her own hair. Her mom didnt notice and thanks to Zach no one at school noticed either. This all just leading to her suicide one step at a time. -
Clay's Avoidence
Clay is feeling guilty, He knows that he's name is comming soon. He explains how Hannah would spend her free time moments with him at their job. He was really falling for her. But whenever anyone seen them Clay pretened it ment nothing and he would push her away or avoid her. He didn't mean to, it was just Hannah had a reputation that scared him. He realizes that avoiding her when others were around was wrong. -
Poem Snatched
Ryan, the editor of the Lost&Found column steals one of Hannah's poems from poetry class, called "Soul Alone". He then puts her poem in his column of the school newspaper. Everyone figures out that Hannah had written the poem and the students began to mock her. She then realizes her thoughts aren't hers and they aren't safe! -
Reaction
Hannah arrives at the party just because she knew Clay was going to be there. As she walked in, it was too soon and Clay darted out the back door. He was to scared but he knew he had to get over it and they needed to talk. They wanted to finally get close and understand eachother. -
A connection
Hannah states how Clay is probably the nicest guy she had ever met. So one night at a party after years of knowing eachother they finally talk.That night they had connected. They talked for hours then went to the bedroom where they had kissed. Like Justin, Hannah was afraid that Clay would betray her. Hannah screamed at Clay to leave, then dropped as tears subsided. -
RAPE!!!
JUSTIN! Justin had allowed Bryce to rape Jessica! Hannah was hiding in the closet and witnessed it, but she wasn't brave enough to do something about it...Justin and Hannah could have prevented this. -
~TONY~
Hannah had asked Tony for some tapes and a recorder. Tony handed them to her clueless. Soon he is mailed the set of tapes the same day hannah dies. Tony then realizes he has to keep an eye out to see if the tapes are continuing to be passed on to the next person in line. -

While Clay is listening to the tape, Tony tells Clay that his story is next and had offerd to drive him around while he continued to listen to his story. -
Accidents
Jenny, the cheerleader was bragging to her friends about setting up Marcus and Hannah. Jenny picks Hannah up from a party when she crashes into a stop sign. Hannah tried to call the cops, but then Jenny had kicked her out the car in fear of getting into trouble.Because of the missing stop sign a car crash happens that later kills a student from Hannah's school. Hannah then feels extremely guilty. -
The Plan
Hannah has been thinking about suicide alot by now. She even states many creative ways to do so. But getting the supplies made things difficult. She then decided the least painful way possible, 'Pills'. To her parents she wanted it too look like an accident. She was found in the bathtub. This is hannah explaining what she had done after the tapes were mailed. -
HotTub
Hannah strips to her bra and underwear with Brice and Courtney. Brice slides over seeing her breasts through her wet bra, sliding his fingers acrossed hannahs body. Courtney just walked away. Hannah's body just went limp and allowed Brice to have his way with her. She used him to completly let herself go. When he was done Hannah just got up and walked away and that was the end of that night. -
Mr.Porter
Hannah goes to Mr.Porter for help, her English teacher, and counselor. Hannah records this conversation, where she turns to him for help and expresses her thoughts of suicide. He tells her that if she doesn't want to press charges against Bryce (which she can't), she should simply just move on. Hannah leaves his office at this and he does nothing to get her back in there, even knowing she wants to kill herself. The last sentence Hannah says on her tapes is 'thank you'. -
The End
The tapes are now over and Clay's emotions flood through him. Pain, anger, sadness, and pity. But most of all hope. He sees skye(his middle school crush) walking the same way Hannah did before she died and races towards her. The closer he gets to her, the faster he walks, the lighter he feels. Finally two steps behind her he says her name, 'Skye'.
