The Mechanical television was invented before the electronic television. The Mechanical television worked by using rotating disks powered by motors to show low resolution, black and white pictures and videos.

In 1927 the Electronic Television was born. Like Mechanical Television, the Electric showed black and white pictures but, instead of using disk and motors, it was powered by a light bulb. -

In 1977 the VHS (Video Home System) was created. The VHS was the first video player created for the television. The VHS plays VCRs (Video Cassette Recorder), which holds a video of some sort to be shown on the Television. -
In 1999 the DVD player was invented. The DVD was similar to the VCR, but instead of a cassette it was a disk. The DVD player eventually outsold the VHS causing the VHS to be discontinued in 2016. -
The flat screen tv was introduced in 2005. The television model gets its name "flat screen" from it slim width compared to the original box shaped television. In addition to the width, the flat screen is significantly lighter in weight. Most of the weight is subtracted by the substitution of technology to power a light bulb in the original, to LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). The LEDs give the flat screen the opportunity to be more slim and compacted but the same capabilities of any television. -
In 2010 the television has got its most impressive addition yet. The addition to the television gives the pictures a 3d effect. The technology behind the 3d effect is called stereoscopy, and it gives the illusion of being able to see the height, width, and the full size of the content.
