    IBM develops the first removable hard drive called the IBM1311. The hard drive had 6 discs and 2.6 MB storage capacity.

  • First Supercomputer: CDC 6600

    First Supercomputer: CDC 6600
    Seymour Cray of Control Data Corporation invented what is considered the first supercomputer, the CDC 6600. It ran up to 3 megaflops and was the fastest computer of its' time.

    Hewlett-Packard develops their first computer called the HP 2116A. It was built to meet consumers' need for an affordable machine that could computerize instrument systems.

    RAM
    RAM (random-access memory), as we know it today, was invented by Robert Dennard. This short-term memory device was also known as "Dynamic" RAM because it needed to be refreshed so often.
