MP3 players were taking over almost making the portable cd player obsolete. They could hold around 1000 songs

E-readers allowed you to store many books on a single tablet style device with a matte, paper like screen that was less strain in the eyes.

2009

One of the very first Android operating system smartphones. Replaced multiple portable devices including other cellphones, mp3 players and had access to the web.
