The first stored computer

1949

In 1949 the British computer called the EDSAC is the first stored program electronic computer. It is the computer to be the first to run the graphical computer cam called "Baby."

First Computer with RAM

1955

MIT introduces the first computer with RAM know as the Whirlwind machine in 1955

First Computer with Transistor

1956

The First computer with a transistor was introduced in 1956. A transistor controls the amount of current for the electronic signal.

First Minicomputer

1960

Digital Equipment Corporation released the first minicomputer in 1960

The First Desktop

1964

In 1964 the Programma 101, the first desktop, was unveiled to the people of New York. 44,000 of them were sold at $3,200.

First Microprocessor

Intel created the first microprocessor in 1971 called the Intel 4004.

A Vietnamese engineer created the Micral computer in 1973 which is considered the first micro-computer.

1974

It was never sold but the Xerox Alto is considered to be the first workstation made in 1974. It was a fully functional computer with a display and mouse.

First Personal Computer

The first personal computer was made in 1975 called the Altair 8800.

First portable computer

1975

The IBM 5100 was the first portable computer and was released in 1975.

First Apple Computer

1976

The Apple I was developed in 1976 and had an 8-bit processor.
