Technological Advancements In the 2000s

  • Blu-ray

    Blu-ray was invented by Blu-ray Disc Association in 2006. It was a disc that produced a higher quality visual element than the DVDs that were used at the time. Blu-ray discs became more favourable and were used for video games and movies. This demand for better and better quality visual elements on screens would continue past the Blu-ray, but they definitely helped start the demand.
  • The iPhone

    The iPhone
    The iPhone was invented in 2007 by Steve Jobs. It forever changed the way society worked. People having instant entertainment at their fingertips, the ability to contact anyone nearly anywhere, the ability to fact check things at any given movement, and constant exposure to ads have morphed society. And this all came from the iPhone.
  • Uber

    Uber
    Uber was created in 2009 by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick and has greatly changed our lives. Uber is many peoples' preferred transportation method when driving your own car is inconvenient. This has caused a drop in the use of other public transportation. Uber also employs its workers like contractors, adding to the rise in 'gig work' jobs. Because Uber drivers are contract workers, driving with one is like driving with a stranger. This normalization of trusting strangers also changed society

    The iPad was invented in 2010 by Steve Jobs. It was a personal computer that was bigger than the iPhone. Due to the iPads size it was preferable to the iPhone for reading and drawing, it helps change the way we use and see computers today.
  • Siri

    Siri
    Siri was invented in 2003 by Adam Cheyer, and launched in 2011 by Apple. It is a virtual assistant AI, made to help people use technology. Siri changed the world by normalizing people audibly asking their devices to do things. Soon after Siri was launched variants of it by other companies were released for phones and computers. Recently it has even been added to TVs and to houses to control things like the temperature and the lights.
