Philips Technology Corporation, in 1979 publicaly showed the prototype CD, at the time it could not record more than 10~ minutes but was still a very effective tool to download music. -

(Not the correct date) After being sold in Japan only for a year or so it was sent to America were it became almost an instant hit, Sony (The makers) Had also included "Mini" earpuds with the cassete player and a small microphone. -
