    Direct Method (1920-1930)

  • Total Physical Response (1970s-1980s)

    Total Physical Response (1970s-1980s)
Was developed by Dr. James J. Asher. This method is based on the fact that every human being is born with the ability to learn languages, Asher affirms that just as children learn to speak by being exposed to large amounts of linguistic information, adults can also learn the English language in this way and at the same time, it is a method that bases the teaching of a second language on listening linked to physical activity designed to reinforce the understanding of the language.

It is a teaching concept that is based on activating the different capacities that our brain and mind possess to free each student from possible limitations that can prevent learning from being developed in a positive way. Lozanov used different relaxation techniques giving special importance to the environment such as furniture, decoration and music to maintain attention and obtain better learning and memory results in the student.
  • Silent Way (1970s-1980s)

    Silent Way (1970s-1980s)
Was developed by Caleb Gattegno. It is a method in which grammatical expressions are not used because it is considered that students are responsible for their own learning and that they develop their knowledge by themselves. The term silence is due to the role that the teacher takes because the students must use their mental processes for each rule of the language that is being learned, the use of different colored strips that represent elements of the language is very frequent.
