    The Enlightenment was a time when philosophers use reason and scientific method to obtain knowledge. Scientists looked beyond the religous doctrine to investigate how the world worked.
  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    Britain's greatest rival to build a world empire was France. They Controlled a large portion of North America known as the Ohio River Valley. The colonists still were considered british and were ready to fight the French and expand westward.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    This proclamation was made by the British Government to avoid further conflicts with the Natives. It stated that colonists could not settle west of the Appalachians.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar act was a set of three laws made by the British in order to prevent colonistist from smuggling goods into the country. colonists did this so they would have to pay taxes on the goods.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp act required a speacial stamp to be on every legal document, licsense, newspaper and much more. This reached into every colonists pocket but they must obey or they would be tried in court and most likely convicted.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    This act placed taxes on all imported Goods. Also a three penny tax was put on tea, which was the most popular drink in the colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Colonists were taunting gaurds and things got very out of hand and left four colonists dead. Look at as a British attack on unarmed defensless colonists.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Upset about the taxes on tea, abot two hundredcolonist rebels disguised themselves as Native Americans and boarded three British ships. They proceeded to throw about 18,000 pounds of tea into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    This was Britains response to the Boston tea party. They shut down boston harbor, gave Massachusatts a new british governer, put Boston under rule by millitary forces, and allowed British soldiers to stay in private vacant homes.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The Battles of Lexington and Concord
    A great American victory. Minutemen easily defeated the British by outsmarting them.
