Zimbardo briefed the guards of their roles and told them that they were free to do what they thought was necessary to maintain law and order.
-
Zimbardo thought that they may have to abort the experiment as there wasn't much going on as he thought that the guards were having difficulty getting into their roles as prison guards.
-
The Palo Alto police arrested the 9 students and brought them to the police station, then stuck in a cell blindfolded. They were then stripped naked and put the prisoner uniform on them that had their prisoner ID. From now on the prisosners were only called by their prisoner ID.
-
The Stanford Prison Experiment began and was conducted in Stanford University. The experiment was run by Zimbardo.
-
All the prisoners started to rebel and ripped off their ID tags and they began to tease and taunt the guards.
-
-
Blocked the cell door with their bedframes and they refused to listen to the guards.
-
A spy stanford student was included in the experiment and he was to gather information on the prisoner's tactics. He was prisoner #8612.
-
Was released as he began to act crazy and go into a rage that seemed to be out of control.
-
Was an act of Rebellion, he went on a hunger strike so that he could be released as one of the prisoners told him that it was impossible to quit.
-
Zimbardo decided to end the experiment the next day because the "guards" started to behave sadistically and the prisoners began behaving in a certain way. He also ended it because watching the video tapes, the prison guards would increase the abuse on the prisoners and Christina Maslach (Stanford Ph.D) questioned the morality of the experiment and soon after her visit Zimbardo decided to end the experiment.
-
The experiment only lasted 6 days in total because within the 6 days the prisoners showed signs of stress and became depressed.
