    Brown vs. Board of Education
    I believe that Brown vs Board of Education is a significant moment in history not only because it ended segregation by race but it also began discussions about individuals and disabilities. After segregation by race was eliminated, people started to fight about segregating and providing rights for individuals with disabilities.     Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
    The purpose of the ESEA was to protect and provide for students with disadvantaged backgrounds. When specifically focusing on students with disabilities, this act promoted improving special eucation programs. This is important because it was one of the first Acts to really get people focused on the rights of students with disabilities.     Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EAHCA)
    The EAHCA covered a lot of information including mainstreaming, appropriate education for students with disabilities and introduced the least restrictive environment. This is an important Act because it was the starting point at which IDEA and IDEIA are stemmed from. The ideas of mainstreaming and LRE are still very much implemented in current school environments.     Americans with Disabilities Act
    The Americans with Disabilites Act is important because it protects the rights of people with disabilities. It is significant because it deals with many different aspects of life such as employmet, accomodations, transportation, government services, etc. This Act gave the rights back to the people and would not let them be discriminated against. www.ada.gov

    Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
    The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was created to ensure that children were getting education services. Some of these services include early intervention, special education and related services.     No Child Left Behind
    No Child Left Behind Act was created for a couple of different reasons but one of these reasons being to close the gap between students current and their expected performance. These high expectations for students with disabilities is very intense. I think this Act is important because it holds a lot of accountability on students, teachers and schools. Vaughn, S.     Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA)
    The IDEIA is important because it provides funds for early intervention and also uses RTI as a tool for determing a learning disability. This act also affects lincensure for special education which will raise this program to higher standards. It is crucial that improvements be made throughout time and keep current and relevant.
