    February 15 1898: Maine goes Down
    USS Maine explodes in Cuba. Many believe that it was caused by Spain. The explosion was caused by a mine. Explosion was caused in Cuba's Havana harbor.
  • April 20, 1898: War on Spain

    President Mckinley ask congress to allow them to declare war on Spain. Wanted to give Cubans their independence from Spain. Thought that it was there right to free Cuba from Spanish rule.
  • May 1, 1898: Battle of Manila Bay

    May 1, 1898: Battle of Manila Bay
    In the first battle between Spanish and American Forces, U.S. Commodore Dewey and his Asiatic squadron defeat the Spanish fleet at Manila Bay in the Philippines. This is the first battle of the Spanish- American war.
  • June 22, 1898: U.S. troops land in Cuba

    On June 22, 1898 U.S soldiers land in Cuba's land.Previous to landing in in Cuba U.S troops were stationed at Tampa Florida.
  • July 1, 1898: Battle of San Juan Hill

    U.S. General William Shafter ordered an attack on the village of El Caney and San Juan Hill. Many U.S soldiers fell under Spanish gunfire before reaching the base of the heights. When they got to the height the force split up into two flanks to take San Juan Hill and Kettle Hill.
  • July 3, 1898: The Battle of Santiago de Cuba

    The Spanish fleet was destroyed off Santiago by U.S. warships under Admiral William Sampson. On this day U.S soldiers defeated Spanish forces. Gained Cuba independence from Spanish rule.
  • July 17, 1898: Spanish Surrender

    The Spanish surrendered to U.S at Santiago. Surrender Cuba to the Untied States. Both sides met in the shade of a tree that stood in the area between the opposing lines.
  • August 12, 1898: Armistice between Spain & U.S

    August 12, 1898: Armistice between Spain & U.S
    The Spanish-American War ends with an armistice. Spain agrees to a peace agreement with the U.S. The terms that was in the armistice was cession of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Manila in the Philippines to the United States pending a final peace treaty.
