    The first war was known as the "10 year War" which doesn't completely get the attention of the U.S. Our Nation was still in the midst of the aftermath of the Civil War as a country we aren't interested in at the moment. While in Cuba Guerilla warfare tactics and an end result of 200,000 dead. America still showed sympathy. This is the importance to show timing is everything.

    The U.S Navy blockaded the Spanish Navy. Resulting in victory for the U.S. and Spain with sunken ships in the Battle of Santiago. Which signifies our sympathy and what we are willing to do to protect Cuba from war and build our Empire.

    Jose Marti was a Cuban Poet and journalist. Marti organized Cuban resistance against Spain. active guerilla warfare and destroying American-owned sugar mills. This engaged the U.S. thinking Spain was destroying these mills involving us otherwise we will lose money so the U.S. Must step in. Jose Matri's leadership ultimately brought the U.S into the war which makes him so important.

    In responding to the revolt Spain sent Valeriano Weyler a General to restore order. Weyler's efforts to crush rebellions by herding rebels into barbed wire concentration camps launched the release of the yellow press. With the U.S. receiving Yellow Press eagerly bringing them into sympathizing and considering joining the war which brings a big decision for us to make to stop Weyler or stay out making him very significant.

    Yellow Press Shapes American Public with respect for Cuba's Civil War
    Yellow press is an exaggerated article about whats going on. The Spanish American war saw this a lot in early MAy. With Weyler in many of the headlines. The press would be sold around the world angering citizens, and which eventually brings a strong reason to bring on the war. This did not start the war but it did influence many beliefs on what was going on showing great significance to this war.

    The De Lome letter was an evaluation of President William Mckinley illustrated by Enrique Dupuy de Lome the Spanish minister to the U.S. The letter was written calling our President "weak" and "a bidder for administration for the crowd".

    The explosion of the USS Maine is quite a mystery. However, the U.S has strong beliefs it was the Spanish. This draws attention to The U.S joining the war. Ironically we sent the USS Maine into a foreign country and were shocked to receive news it was blown up which shows we thought it was just okay to send a warship to another country and hope Spain didn't care it was there. Drawing us into the war makes this event important for this was a fairly newly built and important part of our military.

    McKinley went to congress and asked for permission to use force against Spain. This is the first significant action McKinley has really done for this war. This allows us to move in our military and help Cuba get their freedom. Declaring War officially makes this happen. This shows the significance of the availability however we need volunteers still and to get prepared.

    The Spanish-American War is a long war that is thought to be to help Cuba gain Independence. Though the actual fighting of the U.S. comes much later this war was started far before the fighting. The U.S. fought on the side of Cuba fighting for independence and freedom while this helps us become noticed as a so called "World Power" which is why it is so crucial in history.

    Though Spain thought America would first invade Cuba the first battle took place in the Philippines. On April 30, America steamed to the Philippines and Commodore George Dewey gave the command to open fire. This victory launched the war and allowed U.S. troops to land in the Philipines. This is very important for starting the war and interestingly enough it's on the whole other side of the world of Cuba.

    The capture of Puerto Rico was to show Spain what we can do. After only a few losses Spain Sureeneder signing the armistice and U.S. raised an American flag over the island. This shows how important it was to not only defeat Spain but also we gained land in the Caribbean which helps us build our empire significantly.

    Battle of San Jaun Hill
    The Battle of San Juan Hill was fought by Roosevelt with his "Rough Riders". Taking place near the city of Santiago this battle was known as one of the final battles of the Spanish-American war. This battle was so important because this was finalizing taking over the Spanish territory as close to Santiago as we've ever done. Pushing them back into their territory making freedom for Cuba in even closer sight.

    The Blockade was to keep Spain from fleeing and the war being unfinished. When Spain tried to escape two days after the battle of San Juan Hill the naval battle ended with the Spanish fleet destroyed. The importance of this was to keep Spain from retreating without actual documentation/ treaty ending the war to ensure the freedom of the Cubans.

    As you can tell by the title this is the main part of the war. Fighting for Cubans freedom by invading and talking out the enemy head-on however this did not start the war but however mostly ended it. This is very important for we have never sent soldiers to a foreign country let alone this many. It's new the U.S. building our empire by learning through this experience having to feed and keep them safe on the journey to Cuba.

    The armistice was a cease-fire agreement between Spain and the U.S. This was nearing the official end of the war.

    The Spanish Sureeneder signing the Treaty of Paris. They did this knowing they could not defeat our MIlitary. Helping the Philippines gain freedom and ending the war which finalizes the war aswell.

    Treaty of Paris
    After only 15 weeks of Actual fighting in the war, U.S. and Spain signed the cease-fire armistice called the "Treat of Paris. ENding the fighting but not giving the freedom completely. This Treaty allowed us to get out of the fighting and get our troops back home to treat them. Without the Treaty, we could end up with more sick troops. The U.S. lost more troops due to yellow fever and other diseases.
