  • The dutc doktor

    The Dutch doctor and merchant Jan van Riebeeck sets up a supply station at Kapp the good hope for VOC. The station gradually evolves to become Cape Town.On the 6th of April 1652 Van Riebeeck landed at the Cape with 3 ships (Reijer, Dromedaris, Goede Hoop), accompanied by 82 men and 8 women (including Maria de la Quellerie). The Walvisch and the Oliphant arrived late, having had 130 burials at sea.

    The Invasion of the Cape Colony was a British military expedition launched in 1795 against the Dutch Cape Colony at the Cape of Good Hope, the southern tip of Southern Africa.

    A conflict and power struggle arose between the british and the boers, and the boers set up their own republics inland. WHen the diamonds and gold were found , the british wanted to put those areas under british control, and the resulted in the boer ear.

  • South Africa banned from Olympics

    South Africa has been barred from taking part in the 18th Olympic Games in Tokyo over its refusal to condemn apartheid.
  • Nelson mandela

    Following the election of 27 April 1994, Nelson Mandela was sworn in as President of South Africa. The Government of National Unity was established; its cabinet made up of twelve African National Congress representatives, six from the National Party, and three from the Inkatha Freedom Party.
