    Sonic the Hedgehog is a seminal 16-bit 1991 platform video game developed in Japan by Sega and published for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. Sonic the Hedgehog's music was composed by Masato Nakamura, a member of J-pop band Dreams Come True. The game uses the on-board Yamaha YM2612 synthesizer sound chip to produce a variety of stereo sound effects and music.

    Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a 16-bit 1992 platform video game that was developed by Sonic Team members working at the Sega Technical Institute, and published by Sega for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis console.The game's ending theme song, "Sweet Dream" by Dreams Come True, was later remixed by popular R&B recording artist Akon, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

    Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a 1994 platform video game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.According to STI director Roger Hector, Michael Jackson was initially brought in during development to compose music for the game, even though no mention of his involvement was included in any of the game's credits.

    The soundtrack for the Mega Drive version was composed by Tatsuyuki Maeda, Seirou Okamoto, Jun Senoue, and Masaru Setsumaru, the latter two would later write music for Sonic Adventure in 1998. Several incidental themes are reused from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles.The Saturn and PC versions' soundtrack was composed by Richard Jacques, and is stored as Red Book audio. This soundtrack features the song "You're My Hero" performed by Debbie Morris, which is played during the end credits.

    Head composer Jun Senoue brought a new sound to the Sonic the Hedgehog series with this game, and as such it features many different styles of music such as jazz, rock, techno, pop and country.The development team preferred the use of "hot, funky, and rock 'n' roll" music over the traditional techno-based music present in earlier Sonic games.

    Jun Senoue returned as head composer for this game. Like the previous game, each character received an instrumental motif that serves as their theme song.Crush 40, which consists of Senoue and vocalist Johnny Gioeli,[9] officially debuted with the theme song Live & Learn, which plays during the main menu and the final battle.The Sonic Adventure 2 Multi-Dimensional Original Soundtrack was produced by Jun Senoue and released by Marvelous Entertainment on August 22, 2001.

    Jun Senoue once again returned to provide music for the game, along with the two songs by his band Crush 40. Replacing the individual character songs, playable teams now have team theme songs.The Sonic Heroes Official Soundtrack was released in North America on November 9, 2004
  • Sonic Rush

    The music of Sonic Rush was written by acclaimed Sega composer Hideki Naganuma. It was released in Japan as a CD, SONIC RUSH Original Groove Rush, on November 23, 2005 through Wavemaster Studios. The CD has 45 tracks, seven of which are digital remixes rather than master tracks.
  • Sonic The Hedgehog

    The main theme for the game, "His World", is performed by Ali Tabatabaee and Matty Lewis of the band Zebrahead. Crush 40 also performed a different version of "His World". The in-game music is composed by Tomoya Ohtani, Mariko Nanba, and Hideaki Kobayashi, with Namano Mushrio, and the Japanese Geroinic Band & Symphony. HipHop/R&B Artist Akon has done a remix to the Dreams Come True song "Sweet Sweet Sweet," a song from the album The Swinging Star.

    The music in the game keeps its overt funk and hip hop influences that first used in Sonic Rush. The music is atypical for the Sonic series, along with its many small phrases and words throughout the songs. Sega composer Teruhiko Nakagawa is the sound director and composer of Sonic Rush Adventure.The official soundtrack of the game, titled Sonic Rush Adventure Original Soundtrack was released on October 18, 2007 in Japan, along with 52 original tracks.
  • Sonic and the Black Night

    Face to Faith is the official vocal songs soundtrack for the video game Sonic and the Black Knight that was released on April 8, 2009 in Sega Direct Stores in Japan. It features five vocal tracks that were featured in the game. This was also the last game that had the Sonic X voice cast.
  • Sonic The Hedgehog 4

    Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is an episodic platform video game and a sequel in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.Music and sound are composed by Jun Senoue, also a mainstay of recent Sonic games, and were intended to be reminiscent of classic Genesis titles, via the use of drum samples from Sonic 1 and 2 and relatively lo-fi synth samples.
  • Sonic Generations

    To commemorate Sonic's 20th Anniversary, several soundtracks have been released. The first, titled "History of the 1st Stage" was released as a pre-order bonus for Sonic Generations in Japan. The second album, "History of Sonic Music 20th Anniversary Edition" was released in Japan on December 7th, 2011, and includes 43 songs from the series as a whole split between two discs. The official Sonic Generations soundtrack, "Blue Blur", was released in Japan on January 11th, 2012.
