    He was invited by Earnest Shackleton on an expedition to Antarctica.

    He returned back to Australia from Earnest's Expedition

    He returned to Antarctica as the leader of his own expedition, The Australasian Antarctic Expedition.
  • Last one Standing

    On one of his journeys inland, his two teammates died and he was left alone and injured.

    He eventually made his way back to base, but the ship had left without him. This meant another winter in Antarctica.
