After preparing for their journey, the crew is finally ready to leave.
-
After two milatary crew members have left to fight in WW1, and they have recieved a telegram from Winston Churchill that reads, "Proceed", the crew has sailed down the Thames and left England.
-
A few drunken crew members were fired and replacements were found in the "Endurance"'s first stop, Argentina. Unbeknownst and soon discovered by the Commander, Percy Blackborrow is a stowaway on the ship.
-
-
The crew has landed at their second stop, South Georgia Island, a whaling station.
-
After spending a month on South Georgia Island, the crew leaves, only a little over two weeks before Midwinter's Day.
-
After meeting Whales and Adelie Penguins when they first enter Antarctica, the crew is promptly swallowed by ice.
-
In the Antarctic, for six months it's daytime, six months nightime. The sun has just set. It's Night.
-
Henry Shackleton, the crew's commander, has ordered that fires be burned down. That means thay have to stay until spring, when the ice will break up and thay can get through.
-
The crew wanto know which dog team is the fastest, so they are holding a race. Betting is downright feverish.
-
Midwinter's Day in the middle of the summer? It may be hard to believe, but seasons are the reverse in the Southern Hemisphere that they are in the Northern Hemisphere. They crew dresses up and has a harty meal.
-
The crew cheers the return of "Old Jamacia", sailors' slang for the sun. You might find this crazy, but the sun set six months ago.
-
Because of pressure that has lasted for months, the crew is forced to pack up and abandon ship.
-
After attempting to drag their emergency boats 346 miles to the ocean and only making one mile, the boss decides to set up camp and let the ice drift.
-
At 5 p.m., the boss cried out, "She's going, boys!" to tell that their beautiful ship had finally given in, and sunk below the ice.
-
Under Navel Law, a crew's pay and duties are terminated when the ship sinks, so the carpenter, McNeish, has decided that he will not take another step. Then the boss points out to them that their pay and duties has not been terminated because Navel Law also says that a crew has to work and be paid by/to the "Master" (Shackleton) when they are on board, in boats, or on shore. Since they are technically on shore, the crew still keeps its duties and is still paid.
-
After dragging up a new camp wit their boats a little farther, the crew decides to set up a new camp with the same purpose as the last, to drift.
-
After 346 miles of the back-breaking work of dragging the boats, the crew is finally to water. It's time to sail.
-
After a while at sea, the crew has finally made it to Elephant Island, and will soon depart with a group of men for South Georgia Island for help.
-
To get help, Shackleton is taking himself, Worsley, Crean, McCarthy, McNeish (despite the mutiny he caused, they need the carpenter), and finally (last but not least) Vincent to South Georgia Island.
-
After surviving a nine hour hurricane on the water, the rescue crew has landed. Now they must cross the entire island to reach the whaling station for help.
-
Shackleton, Worsley, and Crean are leaving for the whaling station to get help.
-
-
Shackleton has done it. He finally got a rescue ship, the "Yelcho", and will take his crew back home!
