    Old Deluder Satan Act
    Old Deluder Satan Act was chosen as one of the five events that shaped modern day K-12 public education because it was the start of public education for all children. This act ensured state oversight and control over the schools. Enforcing all children to learn to read and write. Because of this act, the school system and children learning began.
  • Horace Mann

    Horace Mann
    Horace Mann was chosen because he created the first state board of education. This is one of the five events that shaped modern day K-12 public education because a series of school systems became a state school system. Even though he had no power to enforce ideas, they were able to report to the legislature about conditions, reporting facts, making recommendations, etc. It was a start to ensure educational equity and rationality to all students in all locations.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    Brown v. Board of Education was chosen as one of the five events that shaped modern day K-12 public education because it started the desegregation of schools. Segregated public schools were not equal and this deprived the children of the equal protection of the laws. After Brown v. Board of education, the south was seeing less segregated schools which was appropriate, both morally and educationally.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    No child left behind act was chosen as one of the five events that shaped modern day K-12 public education because this ensured that equal education was being administered to all children no matter their income levels, disabilities, etc. Instead of a low-test score affecting a student, it affected the entire school. This also made schools hire qualified teachers to be available in each core subject classroom and make changes to benefit the students and their academics.
  • ESEA - Charter Schools

    ESEA - Charter Schools
    When the ESEA authorized funding to expand charter schools, it became an event that shaped modern day K-12 public education because charter schools are able to provide free public education to students. They are becoming more popular and are able to create a school system that doesn’t divide its resources across the system but offer all the resources to each individual child in hopes to create better schooling for all children.
