A star was born
Selena was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson Texas to Abraham and Marcella Quintanilla. Selena did not speak Spanish, nor did she have an interest in singing. -
The discovery
Around the age of 10 her dad, who was a musician, discovered his daughter's talent and began a music group. -
Los Dinos
Her father Abraham began the band with Selena, her brother AB, and her sister Suzette. As the years passed, he added other musicians, one of them being Chris Perez who later became her husband. Her sister played the drums, her brother the guitar and would also, compose songs along with other members of the band. the band struggled because Selena was a woman and there were other bands with much better equipment, but they kept trying. -
1987 "Best Female Vocalist Of The Year"
In 1987 after so many struggles and hard work, Selena got her first award. She later became known as the queen of Tejano music. -
A Grammy!!!
Her album "Live" won her a Grammy as the best " Mexican/American" album of the year! -
One of a kind
Selena was referred to as the "Mexican Madonna" for her sexy out fits and unique dance moves. Her songs como la flor, amor prohibido, among others, got her well known in the Spanish speaking community. Also, her friendly and outgoing personality earned her many fans. She interacted really well with her fans and had a humble personality, even after she started becoming well known. -
Dreaming of you....
Selena was murdered in March 31, 1995 by her fan club president Yolanda Saldivar. She was in the middle of recording an English album. Her songs dreaming of you and I could fall in love where among the few that she was able to record. Selena will always be remembered. Her life was cut short, but her legacy will live on forever.
