  • Diana VS. California State Board of Education

    This case was about the disproportioned Hispanic children that came from homes where Spanish was the first language and were testing mildly retarded due to a language barrier. The cased laid the ground work for future biases based on culture.(Henley, Ramsey, & Algozzine, 2009)
  • Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children (PARC) v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

    Fourteen families sued the state of Pennsylvania for not providing their children fair and equitable access to education. One child was unable to attend Kindergarten because she was not toilet trained due to intellectual disability. The Court ruled in favor of the families and put into place that the state must admit all children with intellectual disabilities into public schools. (Henley, Ramsey, & Algozzine, 2009)
  • Mills Vs. The Board of Education of the District of Columbia

    This case challenged the Districts practice of exclusion based on disabilities and helped ensure all children had the right to due process and free and unrestrictive education.(Henley, Ramsey, & Algozzine, 2009)
  • Rederich L. VS. Thomas (Philadelphia)

    Class action suit that reaffirmed the right of students with learning disabilities to have appropriate education programs. The problem was the schools stated they did not have the funding to implement programs to help individuals with disabilities.
