President Bush signed the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act, which reauthorized the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), on December 3, 2004. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 helped children learn better by promoting accountability for results and enhancing parent involvement. -
The Flipped Clasroom
A flipped classroom is an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning, which aims to increase student engagement and learning by having students complete readings at their home and work on live problem-solving during class time. Race to the Top
Race to the Top was introduced by President Obama in 2009, as a competitive fund to promote school improvement on both a state and local level. At that time, $4.35 billion was pledged in what the White House called the “largest ever federal investment in education reform,” according to the Washington Post. State governments were called upon to submit plans for education reform in order to gain a portion of the funding pledged for the program. -

The Kindergarten Readiness Act
The Kindergarten Readiness Act (SB 1381), passed in September 2010, changed the entry date to September 1 so all children would enter kindergarten at age 5. The new age requirement was phased in over three years starting in 2012-13. -
Common Core State Standards

Next Generation Science Standards for California Public Schools
On September 4, 2013, the SBE adopted the Next Generation Science Standards for California Public Schools, Kindergarten through Grade Twelve (CA NGSS) as required by California Education Code 60605.85. The NGSS Appendices A-M were also adopted to assist teachers in the implementation of the new science standards and to aid in the development of the new science curriculum framework. -
Senate Bill No. 876
Approved by the Governor on September 27, 2014, this bill would require the funding for the renovation, repair, or improvement of an existing building to make it suitable for licensure for child care and development services to be used for loans, would require the loans to be repaid within a period that does not exceed 10 years, and would require the Superintendent to deposit all revenue derived from the loan repayments into the fund, thereby making an appropriation. -

The California Multilingual Education Act
In 2016 California voters approved Proposition 58, which effectively repealed the English-only requirement of Proposition 227. Under the new law, the “California Multilingual Education Act,” ELs can learn English through multiple program options. Districts are required to discuss plans for new problems families and community members. Another change is that parents will no longer have to sign a waiver in order to enroll their children in a bilingual program. -
The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act
On July 31, 2018, President Donald Trump signed the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (HR 2353) The Act reauthorized the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act, a $1.2 billion program modified by the United States Congress in 2006, a move to change the Higher Education Act was also deferred. -

Digital learning is an instructional practice that ultimately helps students. It makes use of a broad range of technology-enhanced educational strategies. It includes blended learning, flipped learning, personalized learning, and other strategies that rely on digital tools to a small or large degree. -
Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP)
The LCAP is a tool for local educational agencies to set goals, plan actions, and leverage resources to meet those goals to improve student outcomes. The LCAP is a three-year plan that describes the goals, actions, services, and expenditures to support positive student outcomes that address state and local priorities.
