    The Spanish Empire
    Christopher Columbus, an Italian sailer, was inspired by Marco Polo's writing, which convinced him that the shortest route to the indies was to the west(across the Atlantic Ocean).

    Columbus Discovers the Americas
    Christipher Columbus, an italian/spanish explorer landed in the Americas with his crew. Him and his crew landed in the Americas thinking its the Indies, when it was actually America.

    The Columbiann Exchange
    The Columbian Exchange was when Europe and America traded goods to one another.Europe brought diseases to America, along with foods like fruits and vegetables.America brought Europe food aswell, such as spices,fruits,turkeys etc. This all happened after Columbus had reached the New World(America).

    The African Slave Trade
    Slaves started being traded across the Carabean by the European slave traders.Later on, these slaves were brought to the Americans and then sold there.They were also carried though the Atlantic ocean but very many died on their way,but the rest were sold to people in the Americas.

    New France was establised by Jaques cartier,who was sailing through the Pacific ocean, on the search for a water route. Then he found Canada, and decided to name it New France.

    Walter Raleigh, an english man who tried to start the island of Roanoke. The people of the island were welcomed by native americans, who were mostly interested in finding gold, but soon ran out of their supplies
  • Jamestown: The First English Colony

    Jamestown: The First English Colony
    English settlers went overseas to the new colony to claim land in North America. Jamestown was the first colony that was British, in the Americas, which was named after King James.
  • New Netherlands

    New Netherlands
    Henry Hudson, an english sailor, found present day New York and claimed it for Netherlands.Later on the english overthrown the dutch, and they eventually got driven out of America.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The british had just lost a lot of money due to the French and Indian war, so King George didn't have any money to fight. There for he drew a line through the Appalachian Mountains, so the Indians and Colonists wouldn't fight.Native Americans on the west and colonists on the east. The colonists hated it because alot of them were already on the west.Instead of listening to the colonists complain, the british sent more and more troops to guard the Indians.

    The bristish still had problems due to the large debts,so they started the Stamp Act, where colonists had to buy a stamp for every piece of paper they used.The british told the colonists it was also for the protection they provided.Again, the colonists got furious and began to protest, until the british finally gave up with The Stamp Act.

    The Quartering Act
    After the stamp act failed,British came up with the Quartering Act, where colonists had to provide british troops with quarters,food,bedding etc. The colonists didn't like it at all and started protesting.They decided not to vote any fund for salt, viniger and liquor,but the british refused.Both sides were angry by now.

    The Townshend Act
    Because of the colonists bad behaviors, the british decided to put taxes on their goods such as paper,plass,paint,tea etc, and called it the Townshend Acts,started by Charles Townshend.The colonists thought of this as a disguise for taxes, and they were very upset about this.Now the colonists began to boycott all those british goods,until the british decided to repeal everything but tea.

    The Tea Act
    The british lowered the cost of tea,but colonists were forced to buy tea only from the East India Company,since they were going bankrupt.The colonists knew this was pointless for them,and that King George was just making them pay more taxes. They were angry,so they decides to dress up as Native Americans (as a disguise) and dumped all the tea into the Harbor.

    The Intolerable Acts
    King George was very dissapointed with what the colonists for wasting all that tea.Therefor he made harsher laws then ever,for example not allowing the colonists to use the harbor(so they cant trade on ships).The colonists had enough,this time they all united to support Boston.Instead of using violence,they'd come up with a more peaceful idea.They wrote a respectful message to King George stating that this was unfair and that he should recognize their rights.

    The first battle between the british and the colonies (for the seven year war began) was the the battle of Lexington and Concord.This is what King Geoge III decided to do instead of helping the colonists with their complaints.
  • The Second Continental Congress

    The congress decided to command the new england army. John Adams and George Washington wanted to make a continental army. George Washington was nominated by John Adams to lead this army.
  • The Olive Branch Petition

    The Olive Branch Petition
    The olive branch petition was the last attempt the colonists tried before a bloody war. The colonists sent king George III a petition letter, but before that the King already had decided they were in a rebellion.

    The colonists had built a fort on top of bunker hill, which the british decided to siege.The colonists couldn't fight back properly because they were running out of gunpowder,so they had no other choice but to sureender.

    George Washington lied about having tremendous amounts of gunpowder when he had very little.So, colonists decided to steals weapons from the british,which made the british soilders leave the city.

    After the Revolutionary War ended, congress wanted all the states to unite under one national government, and they came up with the "Articles of Confederation" ( a firm league of friendship". This gave important powers, it could make war and peace, raise and army and a navy,print money and set up a postal system.

    The American and British armies met in Brooklyn, New York for battle. The americans were inexperienced weren’t as skilled as the british. After two days of fighting the british had lost 377 men, while the americans lost 1407 men. Howe, a british general ordered the british to stop attacking,because he thought that Washington would surrender. But even though Washington knew they should retreat, he wouldn’t back from because he wanted to keep his pride.This caused the british to chase the American

    Thomas Jefferson wrote a document called the Declaration of Independence, explaining how all the colonies willl unite and become: the united states of America.
  • Trenton

    Trenton
    On Christmas day George Washington led his army across the frozen Delaware river to Trenton. Once there, they found the hessians sleeping. They were surprised when Washington attacked without losing a single man from his army.
  • Saratoga

    Saratoga
    The Americans were in starvation and were frozen, they couldn’t get enough food because farmers preferred to sell to the british because they paid in gold. To help out the Americans Washington put Baron Friedrich von Steuben from Persia to train the Americans. He also brought Marquis de Lafayette, who was one of the richest men in Franch and provided warm clothing for the Americans.

    The British were in York Town and France had sent 5,000 troops to the American army in New York, and 3000 troops that arrived in 29 French warships. With the French and Americans working together they set up a trap and surrounded the british.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The british and the US signed a peace treaty in pairs. The treaty said that three important things: 1. Britain agreed to recognize the United States as an independent country.2.Britain gave up its claims to all land between the Atlantic Coast and the Mississippi river, from Canada south to Florida. 3. The United States agreed to return all rights and property taken from loyalists during the war.

    The constitutional convention was the meeting of all the delegates from all the states to improve the articles of confederation( except rhode island).
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion
    Massachusetts famers(led my farmer:Shay) rebelled, because they were ordered by judges to sell their lands and livestocks to payy off their debts, just becuase their was a money shortage for the famers. Shay and his followers didn't just watch this happen, they did many things, such as closing down the courthouses so judges cant talk down their farms. In the end congress called for a convention because of the situation of the U.S.

  • The Lousiana Purchase

    The Lousiana Purchase
    After US gave Spain the $15million to have Florida, Thomas Jeffereson again bought more land from the French during the "Lousiana Purchase" from Napolean. Napolean agreed to sell that land only because he was scared the British would win it anyway, during a war. Rather than just losing all that land, he thought it would be smarter to sell it and gain money.

    Spain gives Florida to the U.S.
    A man named Andrew Jackson was sent Florida, while it was part of Spain by President James to end raids.Andrew J. and his men invaded Florida, which made Spain very angry and they wanted to call him for illegaly invading Spain. Due to fear, Spain could only give Florida to the US, and in return the US gave Spain $15million.

    Native Americans were interupting Westward Expansion, so Presient Jackson wanted them to be removed. So President Jackson made a law, called the Indian Removal Act, which would force all native americans to go across the river Mississippi.Native American tribes that fought against it, were hurt very harshly.

    After the Indian Removal act, Native Americans (or the people from the cherokee tribe) were forced to move South and leave all their belongings behind.They had to WALK 9,000 long miles. MANY of them died, but the surviors or the sufferers remember it as the "Trail of Tears".
  • Texas is Annexed

    Texas is Annexed
    Texas did not begin with being a state in the United States though many citizens of the US lived there. Therefor they wanted to make Texas a part of the US, but the problem seemed to be Mexico. They wouldn't like this idea,and would perhaps begin a war.But President Polka's decision was to annex Texas, for the US.
  • Oregon Treaty

    The US president of that time, President Polk knew the Oregon Treaty belonged to the British Empire. But still he wanted to annex that whole territory. This also meant he'd have to start a war with the british which wasn't a very good idea. So instead a treaty stating how Oregon would be split in to two, right at the 49th parallel

    War with Mexico
    US wanted to start a war agaisnt Mexico, after Texas had been handed over to the US. Mexico then ended up giving almost half it's land to the States, after fighting many wars, and signing a treaty with the US.

    The Northerners were unhappy with the Fugitive Law because it stated that all run-away slaves must be returned to their owners. They didn't want to follow this law since they're against slavery and don't want the slaves to go back to the place where they have to be slaves and suffer.

    There was a slave who wanted to live in free land along with his white owner, in the North. His name was Dred Scott.Since the North was a free place,he thought that he was no longer a slave, but his owner didn't agree, so he wanted to take this issue to court.But it seemed he can't go to court at all since he wasn't a citizen, so he remained a slave.This made Northerners unhappy because he could not be freed.
  • John Brown's Raid-Unhappy Southerners

    John Brown's Raid-Unhappy Southerners
    John Brown was a man from the north who was strongly against slavery. He decided to attack an arsenal in the south, so the slaves could use the weapons and rebell against slavery.Unfortunately he was killed as soon as he got caught.Southerners were unhappy because the people of the North supported John Brown and looked up to him as a hero.

    President Lincoln-Unhappy Southerners
    When Ab. Lincoln got elected as president, Southerners were very unhappy because they knew for sure that he was against slavery.Southerners didn't want slavery to end, but they were upset becuase President Licoln would ban slavery.They knew that once he did that, they wouldnt like his new law, so they would sepperate from the union. Therefor the United States would then be two different countries.
  • Civil War

    Civil War
    The civil war started because of the problems between the North and the South. The north wanted slavery to come to an end because they thought it was unfair for all black people to be slaves, while the south wanted to keep slavery and didn't care what happened to black people.The southern states didn't want to keep up with the northern states, so they decided to leave the union. The war ended on 1865.
