  • Birth

    Samuel Roy "Sammy" Hagar was born in California on October 13, 1947. He is one of four children to Bobby and Gladys Hagar. His father was a boxer and his mother was a house wife.
  • Graduation

    Sammy graduates from high school in 1964. His grades are bad because he only cares about music, girls and drugs. Instead of going to college he takes up part-time jobs and looks to form a band.

    Montrose

    After a rough patch in his life, Hagar teams up with Ronnie Montrose to form the band "Montrose." The bad found moderate succes, but Sammy left the band in 1975. This helped Sammy kickstart his solo career.

    Early Solo Career

    In 1976, Hagar started his solo career with the album "Nine on a Ten Scale." He released another four albums over the coarse of three years. However, they all received very little success.

    Rise to Prominence

    After switching record deals, Hagar finally rose to prominence with his release of "Standing Hampton." It is his best selling album to date. His follow up "Three Lock Box," was also very successful.
  • I Can't Drive 55

    In 1984, Hagar released the album "VOA." It included his most popular song of all time, "I Can't Drive 55." By this time, Hagar had become a headlining act in many parts of the United States and Europe.

    In 1985, Van Halen had just parted ways with former lead singer, David Lee Roth. Eddie Van Halen called up Sammy for a auditon into their band. After auditioning, they quickly hired Hagar to fill the opening.

    Van Halen years

    With Hagar as the new front man, Van Halen produced four multi-plantinum albums, "5150," "OU812," "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge," and "Balance." "5150" being the bands all time best selling album. This is Hagar's most popular and successful years.

    After 11 years with the band, Hagar angerliy left the band after a series of fueds and disagreements. Van Halen replaced Hagar with Roth, but it was short lived because they split up again soon after.

    Later Years

    Hagar continued doing little projects with other bands and slightly returns to his solo career. Sammy even had a reunion with Van Halen from 2003-2005. In 2008, Hagar and former Van Halen bassiest Micheal Anthony formed a "supergroup" called "Chickenfoot." The group has released two albums. Hagar resides in his homes in California, Mexico and Hawaii.
