  • Toulmin Method

    Toulmin Method
In 1958, the Toulmin method came about. It is an argumentative style that breaks down the basic parts of an argument. It consists of a claim, grounds, warrant, qualifier, rebuttal, and backing. The method is used to prepare for an argument.
An argument should be dissected so that each individual component is effective and strong enough to support the overall objective.
This is all explained in Toulmin's book, "The Uses of Argumentation," which was also published in 1958.
