    The Romantic Era started at the turn of the 18th century and formed the basis of popular music culture for the next 100 years. The music became more expressive and a number of innovative themes arose in composer's music. Many pieces from the Romantic Era are still heard and integrated in popular society today.

    Johannes Brahms was born on the 7th May 1833 and was one of the most influencial composers of the Romantic Era. The 'Hungarian Dances' became a collection of Brahms most famous pieces. 'A German Requiem' was another of Brahms most famous pieces. His pieces were expressive developing the complex nature of music in the Romantic Era. He also developed themes such as chromatism, dissonance, thicker textures and frequent modulations.

    Known as the 'Raindrop Prelude' Chopin's 'Prelude in D Flat major' was completed in 1839. It gained its name from the repeating notes which sound like raindrops falling.

Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 entitled 'Pathetique' was his last completed Symphony. He performed it in 1893 nine days before his death.

    Wagner's 'Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg' translates as 'The Master Singers of Nuremberg'. It is one of the most famous operas of the Romantic Era. The performance takes around four and a half hours and it was first performed on the 21st June 1868 in the National Theatre Munich.
