    Proclamation of 1763
    This document was sent to the Colonists’ by the King and declared colonists were not allowed to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. The colonist mostly ignored it and continued to settle Westward.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    A tax from England the required the colonists to pay taxes for sugar and molasses. The colonists were angered and disagreed with it. They even sent 50 letters in response.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was a direct tax on paper items, newspapers, deeds, legal documents, cigars, and even playing cards. The colonists tried to repeal it with a petition sent to British Parliament, but to no avail.
  • Quartering Act

    The colonists were forced to give the British Soldiers their home and food. In response, the colonists disputed it and said the act violated their rights.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend act was an indirect tax on levied or imported materials such as glass, lead, and paper that came into the colonies from Britain. Samuel Adams led a revolt against it which caused the Stamp Act to be repealed.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The British army shot at a mob that was throwing things at them. The colonist inflated what happened, making people a lot more mad then they had to be. They also reestablished the committees of correspondence.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    This act introduced a bunch of laws that were meant to punish the colonists for the BostonTea Party. It also forced the colonists to follow all future taxes against them. The colonists were obviously mad since it was meant to punish them.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The tea act is a direct tax on tea imported from Britain. The colonist responded by throwing a bunch of tea into the Boston harbor, also known as the Boston Tea Party.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was a political protest against the taxes that were imposed on them. They threw crates of tea into the Boston Harbor which raised the confidence of the colonist and got the British angry.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    12 of the 13 colonies met to organize a resistance against Britain and its taxes. The colonists' reactions were split, some were loyal to Britain while others wanted to be independent.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The first military engagements of the Revolutionary War. Although the colonists lost a lot of people, they won, which showed the British that they have a chance.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Battle of Bunker Hill
    The first major loss for the colonists in the Revolutionary War. Even though the colonists lost, they got a confidence boost and thought that they had a chance against the British.
  • Signing of the Declaration of Independence

    Signing of the Declaration of Independence
    Teh colonists officially declare their independance against Britain. Delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies signed, showing that they were willing to fight for their freedom.
