    Enlightenment

    The Enlightenment was a cultural movement of intellectuals. It began in Europe and eventually happened in America. It introduced new ideas about nature, faith, and tradition.
    I rate this as a 6 because this is when we changed our feelings about certain things and allowed new ideas and thoughts to appear.
  • Period: to

    The French and Indian War

    England and the American colonists fought against the French in America. The debt England had at the end of this war nearly destroyed the English government. To pay for it, they taxed the colonists.
    I rate this as a 5 becasue it led to taxation which angered the colonists and resulted in more drive to fight for their voice.
  • Proclamation Line of 1763

    The colonists were forbidden from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains to avoid conflict with Native Americans.
    I rate this as a 5 because at this point, Americans realized that the British couldnt't control where they settled since they didn't have troops stationed in the mountains.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    pictureAll printed documents such as newspapers, fliers, playing cards, mail, and others had to have a stamp. The colonists boycotted this and the act was repealed.
    I rate this as a 7 because it gave the colonists hope for many more freedoms when the king repealed the act.

    pictureColonial protesters clashed with British troops is Boston resulting in the death of 5 colonists. This event was often used as propoganda.
    I rate this as a 5 because it angered the colonists and gave them yet another reason to fight for their rights.
  • Tea Act

    I rate this as a 6 because this tax also made the colonists mad and led to protesting that had long term significance.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    pictureA group of Boston intellectuals called the Sons of Liberty staged a protest for the Tea Act. They dressed as Mohawk Indians and threw hundreds of cases of tea off British ships into the Boston harbor.
    I rate this as a 8 because it let the British know that the colonists wanted freedom.
  • Intolerable Acts

    pictureThe British were angry about thr Boston Tea Party, so they made three new acts to punish the colonists.
    1. No trial by jury in the colonies
    2. Quartering Act: Colonists must house and feed English soldiers.
    3.Blockade of Boston: no ships can enter or leave a Boston harbor.
    I rate this as a 7 because it showed the colonists that the British really were in charge, and that they weren't going to let them do what they want.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    pictureRepresentatives, or delegates, from each of the 12 colonies met in Philidelphia to address the Intolerable Acts. They sent a letter to King George III asking him to repeal the acts. He would not.
    I rate this as a 4 because the letter written at this meeting was uneffective. would not.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    pictureBritish troops believed weapons were being stockpiled in Concord, Massachusetts. On the way there, the troops were confronted by farmers and militia members at Lexington. The colonists were defeated by the British.
    I rate this as a 5 because it taught the colonists about banding together and fighting for their freedom.

    pictureThe Delegates met again to discuss the battles in Massachusetts. They were split 50/50 on the issue of independance. Most delegates end up supporting independance and set up a committee to write a constitution.
    I rate this as a 10 because without this meeting, we may have never gained our freedom from England.

    I rate this as a 10 because this document gave Americans freedom. It is still in place today and is the basis or our lives as Americans
