  • Navigation Act (#4)

    Gave rights to British troops to search American trade ships with out a warrant Purpose was to limit the smuggling of tea that the Americans had not paid a tax on Wasn't regularly enforced until after the French and Indian War (salutary neglect) Americans were upset about the sudden onslaught of enforcements after the end of the war Wasn't successful in ending tea smuggling
  • Molasses Act

    Put a heafty tax on sugar cane and its subsequent products (molasses and rum) Made it hard for Americans to buy sugar cane from other countries (renforces the British monopoly in the American colonies) Americans begin to want represntation in parlement to have a say in their taxation
    The forced lack of trade diversity is what Americans viewed as unreasonable on the part of the British
  • Albany Plan of Union

    This plan was developed by Benjiman Franklin and in it was the intent that the colonies would unite under one semi-autonomous government This plan was rejected by all of the colonial powers in fear of the formation of a central power in America (critisized by Benjiman Franklin in political cartoon) The plan laid out the eventual setup of government in America for after the Revolutionary War; begain to imprint the idea of a united nation on the colony's leaders and the colonists
  • Proclomation of 1763

    King imposes a border for settlement of the coonies Colonists cannot settle past the appalachain mountains Land was conquered by the British after the French and Indian War Colonists aggrivated by this because that was the land that they helped fight for; they expected to be able to settle Ohio river valley
  • Stamp Act

    Applied a tax on any printed good in the colonies (i.s. playing cards, newspapers, diplomas, etc.) Taxes ranged from 1 cent to $10 depending on the value of the item Colonists felt that their rights were being infringed upon and thus formed the boycotting unions such as the Sons and Daughters of Liberty They revolted by boycotting imported printed goods by forming non-importation agreements to shut down the potential for taxation on products
  • Boston Massacre

    5 colonists were killed when British troops fired upon a crowd that had formed Controversy over wheather or not the troops shot intentionally or by accedent Colonists saw ths as a military attack upon themselves by the British; further repression
  • Massachusetts Government Act

    Dissolves what is left of the Massachusets legeslature Part of Intollerable acts issued by the king in order to take back control of the Massachusets colony, specifically Boston The formation of the 1st continetal congress was spurred by this and other intollerable acts
  • Boston Port Bill

    Britain essentially shut down all importation and exportation through Boston Goal for the British was to completely cut off trade in and out of Boston in order to cripple its economy British posted ships all around boston harber to enforce Colonoists form 1st continetal congress and begin non-importation agreements for the other colonies
  • Lexington and Concord

    The King is afraid of the militias forming in the colonies, so he sends troops to raid the armorys of the colonists Along the way the Americans practice Guerilla Warfare tecniques in order to slow troop movement Americans move armory out of concord before the British get to it Americans see this as a directed military attack on the Colonies and decide to form the 2nd continetal congress aftter this event
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Final peaceful petition for more lenient taxation and for more representation in british parlement The document tries to appeal to the King by explaining the loyalty in the Colonies The King doesn't take this petition seriously and continues to oppress the Colonies in order to take back control Americans decide to take more drastic action and form the Declaration of Independeance after the rejection of the Olive Branch Petition
