  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    British soldiers fought against French soldiers allied with Native Americans. Native Americans joined in the battle because they were afraid the British would take over their land.

    I rate this event as a four because as a result of the war, the British began taxing the colonists to pay for the war. This led to other events in the future.
  • Proclamation Line of 1763

    Proclamation Line of 1763
    Colonists were not allowed to settle west of an imaginary line west of the Appalachian Mountains. This was decided so that they could avoid getting into conlifts with the Native Americans.

    I rated this a two becaause this happened during the French and Indian War and the English didn't want colonists to make any more trouble.

    This was a new tax imposed on all American colonists that required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper that they used. The money made from the Stamp Act was used to help pay the costs of defending and protecting the American frontier.

    Boston Massacre
    This was not really a massacre. There was a conflict between some British soldiers and colonial protesters got in a fight. It resulted in five deaths.

    I rated this event a two because the Sons of Liberty used this as propoganda to turn people against the British.
  • Tea Act

    The British Parliament passed the Tea Act to save the East India Company from bankruptcy by lowering the tea tax it paid to the British government.This is where the quote “Taxation without representation” came from.

    I rate this event a four because it was the final spark to start the revolutionary movement in Boston.

    Boston Tea Party
    The colonies were mad about the Tea Act and were tired of being taxed without representation. The dressed up as Native Americans and threw boxes of East India Company's tea into the water to fight back.

    I rate this event a six because it's something people know about, remember, and study. It also let the colonies try to get their voice heard once again.

    Intolerable Acts
    After the Boston Tea Party, the British passed several punative acts aimed at bringing the colonies back into submission of the King. They hoped these acts would scare the colonies so they stopped rebeling.

  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The British chose to march to Concord because the Americans had stockpiled weapons there. Along the way they fought farmers and militia. They they won more at Concord. Despite this, colonists still volunteered to fight.

  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    Americans wanted to be free from the British rule. The Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia and wrote the Declaration of Independence because King George III was ignoring all of their complaints. The only thing they could do was rebel.

    First Continental Congress
    Representatives from the colonies met in Philidelphia to write a letter to King George III. They asked him to repeal the intolerable acts, which he refused to do.

    I rated this a four because it led into representatives having to meet again to write the Declaration of Independence.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    The Second Continental Congress met to discuss what they should take to finally gain independence.They made a committee of five men to write a Declaration of Independence, including Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert Livingston, and Roger Sherman. Jefferson wrote the first draft.
