Road to the Revolution

  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
The French and Indian War was when the American colonists and England fought againstt the French. Both sides fought to have full domination in the Americas. Due to the huge debt England created for themselves during the war, they taxed the colonists to pay it off. This angered the colonists and made them even more determined to have freedom, because of this, i would rate this event a 5.
  • Proclamation Act of 1763

    Proclamation Act of 1763
Colonists were not allowed to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains as they may have conflicts with the Native Americans. The colonists did not obey this and continued to settle in the west.
I rate this event a 4 because it was not very significant and did not fully affect the colonists.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a direct tax put on all printed documents. Due to this, the colonists boycotted British goods. In return, the act was repealed.I rate this event a 5 because it really did not affect the colonists’ journey to revolution, but it is important because it was a tax toward everyone and not just the colonists.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre resulted in five deaths due to a quarrel between colonial protestors and British Troops. The tension between the colonials and British troops was a main factor that caused this event. I rate this event an 8, because after this happened, the Sons of Liberty used the Boston Massacre as propaganda against the British. This brought the colonists closer to revolution because it just gave them another reason why they should gain their independence from Britain.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
Due to the Tea Act of 1773, the Sons of Liberty staged a protest. The enraged protestors dressed up as Mohawk Indians and threw hundreds of cases of tea from British boats into the Boston Harbor. I rate this protest a 5. Although the protest moved the colonists into a more determined set of mind to get independence, the Boston Tea Party really didn’t help the colonists move toward revolution. They actually got put back due to the Intolerable Acts.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
Britain put a tax on tea which led to the Boston Tea Party. I rate this event a 7 because it is the main cause of the Boston Tea Party.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
Due to the Boston Tea Party, Britain made three new acts to punish them. The three acts consisted of no trial by jury, the Blockade of Boston, and the Quartering Act. The acts put upon the colonists resulted in hardships especially in Boston.I rate this event a 7 because it was not as influential as other events, but it did empower the colonists to fight back against the British.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
A letter was sent to King George III by the 12 Representatives of the colonies asking him to address the Intolerable Acts. He chose not to repeal them.I rate this event a 6 because it began the process of delegates meeting together, discussing independence, and in the end created the Declaration of Independence.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
British troops went to Concord because they heard that weapons were being stock piled. As they were heading toward Concord, Massachusetts’s militia members in Lexington tried to stop them but failed. When the British got to Concord, they defeated the Concord militia too. I rate this event a 8 because more New England colonists volunteered to fight, which caused more people to be involved with the revolution.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
Using ideas from Locke and Rousseau, Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. To prove his argument, he listed 27 ways the British showed tyranny against the colonists. He explained the importance of the colonists becoming independent.I rate this event a 10 because the Declaration of Independence gave us our independence.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
In 1776, Delegates met once again to discuss about the recent battles in Massachusetts. The delegates were split about the problem of independence. The delegates that did agree to support independence set up a community to write a declaration.I rate this event a 10 because this was the beginning of the written document that would give the colonists freedom and allow them to separate from British.
  • The Enlightenment

    The Enlightenment
The enlightenment was a time of advances in the fields of science, philosophy, society and politics. During this time people in Europe began to use reason for government. They applied reason and logic to their society. I rate this event a 10 because during this time great philosophers came up with beliefs on politics and society that we ended up using in our Declaration of Independence.
