    Road to the revolution

This timeline shows events of the early americas. Each event helped lead the colonies toward revolution.
  • 1754

    1754
The french and Indian war was actually a war between the french and the british. Indians were allies to both sides. The two countries were fighting because britain owned the colonies. The french were settling in the Ohio River Valley and the British wanted them out, so a war started. This is important because this shows the eagerness of the British to control more land and to selfishly push the french out of the colonies.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
The sugar act put a major tax on sugar. This is important because taxes were new to the colonists and sugar was a hot ticket item. The colonists needed sugar to make baked goods, rum, and molasses. Taxing such an important good made the colonists angry. Harvesting their anger could easily start a war.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
The Stamp Act put a heavy tax on stamps, newspapers, and other printed goods. This just further irritates the colonists.
  • Troops sent into Boston as military police

Troops sent into Boston as military police
This repealed all import taxes exept tea. This shows that the british ( the King) were willing to negotiate. However not enough for the colonists to be satisfied.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
Nobody knows what exactly happened in the Boston Massacre. However after colonists throwing rocks and shells repeatedly at the troops, one colonist shouted "fire!" and a troop mistook it for his captains command. Once one shot was fired, the other troops gave in to the misconception as well. With nobody to defend the troops, rumors spread that they mercilessly killed the colonists. Newspapers everywhere had pictures and articles of the so-called "massacre"
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
The Tea Act created a monopoly for the British East India company. The British did not want the company to go out of business so they only sold the one brand to all of the colonies. This tea also happened to be heavily taxed, which aroused rebels such as the Adams.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
This was one of the final points of the war. A select few colonists dumped about 1 million dollars worth of british tea into the boston harbor. Obviously this would piss off the king. This is when the tension really grows to an imminent breaking point.
