Road to Revolution Timeline of Events

  • Treaty of Paris

    On February 10th 1763 the Treaty of Paris was signed by Great Britain, France, Spain with Portugal in agreement, after Great Britain Won the French and Indian war to mark a new Era. France and Great Britain gathered as much territory that they could from the war.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    On October 7th 1763 King George the 3rd put a ban on everyone in the Colonies to not have any settlement on any French territories.
  • The Sugar Act

    April 5th 1764 Parliament passed a law putting a tax on sugar and molasses.
  • Stamp Act

    March 22nd 1765 Parliament passed a law that puts a tax on any newspapers, legal and commercial documents.
  • Quartering Act

    March 24th 1765 the Quartering Act was placed on the British colonies to provide British soldiers anything they need like housing, food, water, etc.
  • Stamp Act Congress

    October 19th 1765 first congress of American Colonies meeting in New York City to start the “No taxation without representation”
  • Stamp act Repealed

    March 18th 1766 Benjamin Franklin went to England to represent the colonies where soon Parliament voted to repeal the Stamp Act
  • Declaratory Act

    March 18th 1766 British Parliament implaced the appeal Declaratory act to lower tax off the Sugar act
  • Townshend Act

    July 2nd 1767 British Parliament passed a bunch of acts onto the Colonies and was named after Charles Townshend. Who was the Chancellor of the Exchequer (the leader of the treasurery).
  • Townshend Acts Repealed

    British Parliament choose to cut British land taxes inorder to pay the amount to continue finace their troops in the Colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    March 5th 1770 a street fight broke out between the Partriots and British soldiers. Several colonists were killed during the massacre
  • Tea Act

    May 10th 1773 a very upopular tax that put the colonies. Parliament put a tax on tea which angered the colonists because it was very popular around that time.
  • Boston Tea Party

    December 16th 1773 the Sons of Liberty went on to a cargo ship full of tea and threw box's off the ship into the habor
  • Intolerable Acts

    March 24th 1774 a bunch of acts (laws) were placed. British goverment took over the colony of Massachusetts, placed stricter laws. If a law was broken by a colonist they would be deported to England.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    September 5th 1774 a person from each colony was sent to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to talk about problems against the king. Creating the rebellion against king.
  • Declaration of Rights and Grievances

    October 14th 1774 Congress wrote the document saying that being tax without the clonists consent was demend unconstituional
  • Lexington and Concord

    April 19th 1775 Lexington and Concord was the location of the first gun fire that started the Revolutionary War
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    July 7th 1775 was a battle fought during the Siege of Boston even though the colonists lost they inflicted a amount of death on the British
  • Olive Branch Petition

    July 5th 1775, a Petition was created to have a final attempt to avoid a full on war between the thirdteen colonies and and Britian. Which did not work.
  • Common Sense

    January 10th 1776 Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense which inspired the colonists of the 13 colonies to fight for independence
  • Declaration of Independents

    July 4th 1776 The Thirdteen colonies claimed independence.
