  • The French and Indian War (1754-1763)

    The French and Indian War (1754-1763)
    Between Great Britain and France, the war was mainly about gaining land on North America. Because of the war, the colonists no longer felt the need to have the protection of the British Government
  • The Proclamation of 1763 (1763)

    The Proclamation of 1763 (1763)
    King George the third didn't let people settle on the west side of the Appalachian mountains and wished to "placate Native Americans who had sided against him during the French and Indian war" And although the king made the proclamation, no one actually listened.
  • The Sugar Act ( 1764)

    The Sugar Act ( 1764)
    The King had reduced tax on molasses, but added new taxes onto other things. By adding this new tax, it helped regulate trade by closing legal trade to non-British suppliers. Adding this new tax also allowed seizure of cargoes that violated new rules.
  • The Quartering Act (1765)

    The Quartering Act (1765)
    This act required colonists to house the British Army, against the liking of the people whose houses were being used (which was mostly everyone). Eventually a governor had convinced Parliament to make them "quarter their soldiers in public places, and not in private homes." So the Army set up tents, but because they did, they became very mad with the townspeople and events then led to the Boston Massacre.

    Tax was added onto every piece of paper that was used by anyone, including but not limited to ships papers,licenses, newspapers, other publications and playing cards. By adding tax, it was thought of as a way to make money without approval of the colony legislatures. The money that was made was said to be used to pay for protection at the Appalachian Mountains.

    The Townshend Act (1767)
    The Townshend Act cut off British land tax and started taxing the colonists. Great Britain didn't have enough money to supply its people because of the war it was just in. Americans viewed it as an abuse of power therefore leading to the passage of agreements to limit imports from Britain.
  • The Boston Massacre (1770)

    The Boston Massacre (1770)
    Colonists didn't agree with the fact that British soldiers had to be over in the Americas, therefore an argument broke out between a few colonists and a couple soldiers, one thing led to another and snowballs were being thrown by the colonists and one happened to hit a soldier knocking him down and causing him to miss fire, which made the rest of the soldiers fire out creating havoc.
  • The Boston Tea Party (1773)

    The Boston Tea Party (1773)
    A group of colonists dressed up as Mohawks and protested against the Tea Act which was passed by the British parliament and withdrew duty on tea exported to the colonists. They boarded British East India Company ships and destroyed all boxes of tea.
  • The Intolerable Acts (1774)

    The Intolerable Acts (1774)
    Was made up of 4 separate acts called the Boston Port Act which discontinued the landing and discharging, lading or shipping, of goods, wares, and merchandise. The Massachusetts Government Act,for better regulating the government. The Administration of Justice Act, for the impartial administration of justice. and the Quebec Act, which was an act for making effectual Provision for the Government of the Province of Quebec in North America.
  • Lexington and Concord (1775)

    Lexington and Concord (1775)
    Was the firsts battle of the American Revolution. British troops were sent in to confiscate weapons they run into an untrained army ready to fight and win, and win they did. Defeating over 700 British soldiers, this was just the start of the American Revolution.
