French and Indian War
Britain and France wanted control of the Ohio River. After a long battle, the British won and got a lot of territory, but they were in massive debt afterwards. The British changed their economy and began to heavily tax the colonists so they wouldn't be in debt anymore. This is what started the Road to Revolution. -
Proclamation of 1763
After the French and Indian War, the British passed out the Proclamation of 1763 which didn't allow the Colonists to move west the Appalachian Mountains because they were getting attacked by the natives there. This angered the Colonists though because they felt as if their freedom was being stripped away. -
Sugar Act
The British taxed the colonists on sugar which caused them to begin boycotting the sugar. The colonists were mad because they were getting taxed on something they made themselves -
Stamp Act
The British taxed the colonists on paper, magazines, and newspapers which began “no taxation without representation.” The colonists didn’t like how they were taxed on an everyday item. -
Boston Massacre
The colonists weren’t paying taxes, so they sent British troops to help impose order. The colonists ended up provoking the soldiers, causing them to get scared and opened fire into the crowd. 5 colonists died during the Boston Massacre. The image put here shows how the colonists used propaganda to frame the British Soldiers for killing the colonists on purpose. -
Tea Act
East India Company was given a monopoly on tea. The colonists didn't like this so they protested with the Boston Tea Party -

In response to the Tea Act, a group of people named the Sons of Liberty threw 90,000 pounds of tea into Boston Harbor as a protest. This is the turning point of this timeline because it angered Parliament and they saw it as a waste of money. It also lead to the Intolerable Acts which closed down the harbor which effected the colonists economy. It also lead to them Quartering Soldiers in their homes which angered the colonists because the British Soldiers did not pay and they had to supply them. -
Intolerable/Coercive Acts
It was designed to punish Massachusetts after the Boston Tea Party. Boston Harbor was closed which meant they couldn't ship anything out. The colonists also couldn't meet up and had to house soldiers in their homes. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
The first battles of the American Revolution. British troops marched out of Boston to steal colonists' supplies of gunpowder and ammunition. The first shot fired would become known as “the shot heard round the world.” -
Olive Branch Petition
The Olive Branch Petition was used as the final way to stop war between Britain and the Colonies. The colonists affirming their loyalty to the king, but the king rejected it.
