    What Happend: Britain called a halt to the settlers' westward expansion. It stated that the Appalachian Mountains was the temporary western boundary for the colonies.

  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    People Involved: Parliament and colonists
    What Happened: It lowered the tax on imported molasses and let officers seize goods from smugglers without going to court. It was passed with hope that it would convince colonists to pay the taxes instead of smuggling.
  • Stamp Act

    People Involved: Parliament, Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry
    What Happened: This act placed a tax on about all printed material. All printed material had to have a stamp after the tax was paid.
  • Sons of Liberty

    What Happened: They burned effigies, protested the Stamp Act, and destroyed the houses of royal official.
  • Declaratory Act

    What Happened: Stated that Parliament had the right to tax and make decisions for the British colonies. Was created because colonists were begging them to repeal the Stamp Act.

    What Happened: They persuaded colonists to make and grow their own goods. They also, themselves, made their ouwn goods and boycotted British goods.

    What Happened: A set of laws placeing a tax on imported goods with the tax being paid when they arrive from Britain. Some examples include glass, tea, and paper.
  • Boston Massacre

    What Happened: In Boston, a fight broke out between British soldiers and colonists. The reason for this is the colonists throwing stick and stones at the soldiers.
  • Boston Tea Party

    People Involved: The Boston Sons of Liberty and Samuel Adams dressed as mohawks
    What Happened: In the Tea Act, Parliament repealed all the Townshend Act except for tea. Therefore, as protest, these people threw 342 crates of tea overboard in to the Boston Harbor.

    People Involved: King George and British Government
    What Happened: Because of the Boston Tea Party, the British decided to show who's boss by passing the Coersive Acts (or as the colonists described: Intolerable Acts). This act closed Boston Harbor and banned most town meetings in Boston.

    People Involved: Samuel Adams, John Adams, John Jay, Richard Henry Lee, Patrick Henry, George Washington
    What Happened: Delegates from all the colonies besides Georgia met in Philadelphia to produce a political body for the colonies. A major thing that they did was govern the colonies and draft a list of grievances against the King.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    People Involved: 2nd continental congress
    What Happened: It was a formal request to King George 3. It explained the colonists desire for peace and asked the king to protect the colonists' rights and remain peaceful.
  • Paul Revere's Ride

    People Involved: Paul Revere and William Dawes
    What Happened: They both rode into Lexington to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that the British were coming. A famous line by Paul Revere is, "The Regulars are out!"
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    People Involved: Lexington:the readcoats, about 70 minute men, Captain John Parker. Concord: minutemen and the redcoats
    What Happened: Lexington:The "shot heard 'round the world" occured (we don't know which side) and then a riot broke out. The British won and headed for Concord. Concord: The colonists won but 73 were dead and at least 174 were wounded.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    People Involved: Same as 1st CC except more delegates were added
    What Happened: they established the 1st Continental Army, help create the ideas for the Declaration of Independence, authorized printed money, and much more.
  • Bunker Hill

    People Involved: Colonel William Prescott, read coats, redcoats
    What Happened:The militia men were at the top of the hill and the redcoats were at the bottom. While the British were sleeping, the colonists built a fort and, once they woke up, it took the redcoats 3 tries to get up the hill (because the militia men ran out of ammunition). A famous quote by William Prescott is, "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eye."
  • Common Sense

    People Involved: Thomas Paine
    What Happened: He wrote a pamphlet called Common sense that was writtent o catch the attention of the straying colonists. He basically stated that the colonits need independence from Britain and that it was "common sense" to not follow Britain.
  • Declaration of Independence

    What Happened:It stated rights that the colonists believed they should have, states that people who wish to form a new country should move to, and the existence of a new nation. John Hancock was the first to sign it and signed it the biggest.
