  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Cause: Many people were mad about the high taxes, and special privileges that were given to others. They wanted to introduce slavery.
    Event: Was a rebellion that was held by Virginia and their settlers.
    Aftermath: Farmers and plantation owners started to want to use slave labor.
  • Great Awakening

    Cause: Not many people were that religious during this time, so the Great Awakening was to awaken everyone into it.
    Event: It was a religious revival, which had a big impact on the English colonies
    Aftermath: More people became religious.
  • French & Indian War

    Cause: The British and the French both wanted the same thing, which was control over the Ohio River Valley.
    Event: Conflict between Great Britain and the French because they both wanted to own the Ohio River Valley. The British won by signing the Treaty of Paris.
    Aftermath: The British began taxing the colonies to pay off all the debt they incurred following the war
  • Treaty of Paris

    Cause: To end the French and Indian war.
    Event: Britian won all of Canada, and almost all of the United States.
    Aftermath: France lost all their territory in the New World, and the England rulers of North America were in a lot of debt.
  • Pontiac's Rebellion

    Cause: The tribes that were involved, were very unhappy how the British were treating them, and believed that the French were treating them better, so they got mad and began attacking.
    Event: When Pontiac and the Indian tribes and destroyed British forts. Also many colonists were killed during this.
    Aftermath: The British finally started to take the tribes more seriously.
  • Proclamation Line

    Cause: King George III didn't want another war because the British were already in so much debt.
    Event: It prohibited the American colonists from settling West of Appalachia.
    Aftermath: The colonists didn't care and were very angry about this, so they moved west anyway.
  • Stamp Act

    Cause: The British needed more money to help pay off their debt from the French and Indian War.
    Event: When the British placed taxes on printed items like, legal documents, newspapers, playing cards, etc. Needed proof of payment with a stamp.
    Aftermath: The colonists didn't like this, and began violent protests. The act was repealed 1766 because it was rather hurting them than benefitting them.
  • Quartering Act

    Cause: The British felt like the colonists should pay for the army by doing this.
    Event: When the American colonies needed to provide food, quarters, drinks, and transportation to the British soilders.
    Aftermath: The colonists became very tired and they began to protest. The act expired in 1770.
  • Townshend Acts

    Cause: This law was passed after the Stamp Act was repealed.
    Event: When tax was placed on items like.. tea, lead, glass, dyes, and commonly used items.
    Aftermath: The colonists didn't like this and they began violent protests. The colonists boycotted British goods again because they were angry.
  • Boston Massacre

    Cause: The people in Boston were mad at the British for being in their town, so they started it.
    Event: Several colonists died during the Boston Massacre, it was first just a street fight, but it led to more.
    Aftermath: The Townshend Acts was put to an end, but they kept the Tea Act, they also took away the BR troops.
  • Tea Act

    Cause:
    Event: The Parliament of Great Britain made this law, and the law gave British East India Co. tax free imports of tea in America.
    Aftermath: The colonists feared a monopoly and losing their buisnesses, so they boycotted British goods. The Boston Tea Party later happened.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Cause: The American colonists were angry and frustrated at the British for imposing "taxation without representation".
    Event: Because the colonists were angry, they dumped 342 chests of tea that was imported by the British East India Company into the harbor.
    Aftermath: The British shut down the harbor after this happened.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Cause: After the Boston Tea Party, the British were very mad and
    Event: Adding controls of Mass. rebels by closing Boston ports, passing another Quartering Act, revoked colonial charter and lost self-rule.
    Aftermath: All colonies united, in sympathy for Mass. and leads to further support of rebellion.. it wasn't repealed
  • First Continental Congress

    Cause: This was the colonies response to the multiple acts the British governement has done.
    Event: The leaders of the colonies met to discuss what they think they should do about Britain.
    Aftermath: Things began to change.
  • Common Sense

    Cause: Thomas Paine published Common Sense because he wanted to express his opinions about the British.
    Event: In Common Sense, Paine expressed his thoughts and opinions, in argument of American Independence. It mentioned quotes from the bible, and was published anonymously.
    Aftermath: Many people that read it, were very moved by it, mainly because Paine included religion, and also because many people agreed with his opinions.
