  • French and Indian War

    The war pinned colonies of America against France,
    It was a war over territory and power,
    Provided Britain territorial gain,
    The war caused extreme debt and colonial discontent
  • Sugar Act

    This was the first tax on the colonies by the British parliament. The purpose was to raise profit. It enforced collection of duties, and enforcement of smuggling laws. It disrupted economy by increasing cost of imported goods and reduced exports, also issues writs of assistance.
  • Stamp Act

    Put a tax onto all paper goods including stamps, newspapers and legal documents. It was the second tax law passed by the British parliament. The colonists felt their rights were violated and engaged in riots and attacks in response to it.
  • Townshend Act

    The Townshend Acts were a series of taxes imposed on the colonists. It put taxes on goods like glass, paint, oil, lead, paper, and tea. Colonists argued duties were simply taxes in disguise. The colonists hated them, they caused violence that in turn led to the Boston Massacre.
  • Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act required the colonists to house and feed British soldiers during war. The colonists believed it was a complete invasion of privacy and were angry that is was costing them money.
  • The Boston Massacre

    British soldiers shot and killed five colonists in public area. It caused a massive uproar to decide if the soldiers were in the wrong. It gave the colonists a massive reason to unite against Britain.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was a political protest with the Sons of Liberty, it was in regards to the tea taxes. The colonists threw crates of tea from ships into the Boston Harbor. This fueled the tension between the British and the Colonists. It resulted in the harbor being closed, and took away self government.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts were in response to the Boston Tea Party. They were a series of laws passed by the British parliament that were meant to punish the colonists for their protest.
  • Lexington and Concord

    This was the start/ first battle of the revolutionary war, the British Army tried to capture rebel leaders and destroy american weapons. This is what sparked the american revolution.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    This was a convention that took place shortly after the start of the revolution. They were responsible for supervising the war. They discussed what they would do when seeking independence.
