  • Cause 2: Proclamation of 1763

    Who issued it: King George III
    Who did it affect: only licensed traders could trade to the Indians
    What did the Proclamation do to the colonies?: forbade private citizens and colonial governments alike from buying land or making any agreements with natives
    How is this a cause that led to war?: King George III declared all lands west of the Appalachian Divide off-limits to colonial settlers
  • Cause 3: Sugar act

    How did it affect the colonists? decreased the tax on British sugar and molasses but increased the enforcement of anti-smuggling laws
    How is this a cause that led to war?: raise revenue to help defray the military costs of protecting the American colonies at a time when Great Britain's economy was saddled with the huge national debt accumulated during the French and Indian War
  • Cause 4: Stamp Act

    How did it affect the colonists? The issues of taxation and representation raised by the Stamp Act strained relations with the colonies

  • Cause 5: Quartering Act

    How did it affect the colonists? They had to let British soldiers stay in there house
    How is this a cause that led to war?: increased empire defense costs in America following the French and Indian War and Pontiac's War

    Who:between a patriot mob and a squad of British soldiers
    Where: Boston
    What happened and why: patriots were throwing stuff at the soldiers
    How is this a cause that led to war? helped to unite the colonies against Britain
  • Cause 6: Tea Act

    How did it affect the colonists? Allowed to trade straight with the colonists
    How is this a cause that led to war?: dumped their loads of tea overboard
  • Boston Tea Party

    Who: Patriot leader Samuel Adams and around 60 members of the sons of liberty
    Where: Griffin's Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts
    What happened and why: sons of liberty dumped tea in the Griffin's Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts
    Outcome/effect: the British shut down Boston Harbor until all of the 340 chests of British East India Company tea were paid for, then there was the intolerable act
  • Cause 8: Intolerable Acts

    What happened and why: British punished people for the for the Boston tea party
