  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris was signed in Paris by the representatives of Great Britain, United States, Spain, and France. The treaty finally ended the French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years' War between Great Britain and France, as well as their respective allies. The Treaty of Paris resulted in France losing all of its North American possessions in the east of Mississippi River except for two small islands off of the Newfoundland.

    Pontiac's Rebellion

    The Native American's were unhappy with the British rule. They feared the loss of their traditional ally and also thought that the British settlers would be moving soon across the Appalachian Mountains. As a result, a rebellion was started by Ottawan leader called Pontiac. Native Americans would trick settlers saying they could gain access to forts, but then attacked, captured, and killed inhabitants. In July 25, 1766, Pontiac signed a treaty.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The British Parliament announced that no settlement could take place west of the Appalachian Mountains. The British wanted to stop conflict between Colonists and Indians, and save money. However, with this, the colonists were extremely frustrated since they thought this was the British trying to limit their freedom and ignored the proclamation, moving into the Ohio Valley anyway because of their desire for good farmland.

  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was a tax on importing sugar, wine, and coffee. They already had a Molasses Tax which started in 1733, which cost 6 pence. The Sugar Act was half Molasses tax, being 3 pence, however, the colonists refused to pay it. The parliament passed the Sugar Act to counter smuggling of foreign sugar and establish British monopoly in American sugar market. The colonists were unhappy with this, and organized boycotts and found ways to avoid/ignore the Sugar Act by using the black market.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was the first direct tax on all printed materials. (legal documents, newspapers, dice, etc.) This affected the rich and educated people, which was a small percentage of the Colonial population. However, it affected the right people who understood their rights and had the power to end this.The Stamp Act generated the first wave of significant colonial resistance to British rule. Meetings to petition the tax, created many protests, refusals to pay tax, and attacks on tax collectors.
  • Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act forced colonists to supply British troops with living quarters, bedding, food, beer, cider, and rum. The British did this because most soldiers quartered in public buildings, but when they were away from the cities, they would need to be in private homes. This act made the colonists extremely mad because this was a time of peace, not war, and again, thought this was another try of limiting and take away their freedom so they took the soldiers away.
  • Virginia Resolves

    The Virginia House of Burgesses passed the Virginia Resolves, which denied Parliament’s right to tax the colonies under the Stamp Act. By the end of the year, 8 other colonial legislatures had adopted similar positions.

  • Stamp Act Congress

    The Congress sent letter to government petitioning tax. Meetings established created a number of protests, refusals to pay taxes and even attacks on tax collectors. The Stamp Act Congress was a major step in uniting the colonies against the British. Nine colonial delegations attended and agreed that there could be no taxation without representation.

  • Repeal of Stamp Act

    Under strong pressure from the colonies, and with their economy slumping, meaning the economy went down, because of American boycott of British goods, Parliament repealed the Stamp Act in March 1766. However, the damage between the relationship between the Colonies and England was already done.

  • Boston massacre

    Colonists started attacking a British soldiers by throwing snowballs with rocks and ice inside of them. The British soldier they attacked told others and they all went there and attacked the colonists. However, only 5 people died, but everyone made it seem like the British soldiers attacked the colonists for no reason.
