An order that made American Colonists provide British soldiers with shelter and supplies. -
Stamp Act
Law requiring colonists to purchase special stamps for legal documentation. These were taxed and made lots of money for the British. -
Stamp Act Congress of 1765
This was the first American Congress, they met to decide what should be done about the British taxation. -
Declaratory Act
The replacement of the Stamp Act. Stated that British taxation is the same as Colonial. -
Townshed Act
Indirect taxes on the items used in every day colonial life. -
Boston Massacre
A fight that occured when a mob of colonists ran through the streets of Boston. They threw things at a group of British soldiers and in return the soldiers shot killing 5 colonists. -
Tea Act of 1773
Happened when the East India Trading company had a surplus of tea in which Britain would sell to the colonists for a bargain price. However the taxes on tea were still high so this angered the colonists and lead to the Boston tea party. -
The Boston Tea Party
The Sons of Liberty dressed as Indians, boarded ships and threw their tea onto the Boston Harbor in retalliation to the Tea Act. -
First Continental Congress
Was a convention held by delagates from 12 colonies that decided what to do about the Intolerable acts and how the colonists should respond. -
The Intolerable Acts
Four acts passed by Parliment in retalliation to the Boston tea party. These laws took away Massachusetts government and rights. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
First battles of the Revolutionary war and even though the casualty count wasn't very high, this marked the start of the war. -
Second Continental Congress
A convention of delagates from the 13 colonies that managed the revolutionary war efforts. They also created the Declaration of Independence. -
Common Sense
Written by Thomas Paine, Common Sense related to the colonists and challenged the crown at the same time. -
Declaration Of Independence
Document announcing that the colonies are declaring independence from Britain. -
American Revolution ends
The conolies win independence after the battle of Yorktown. Their independence is made official when the Treaty Of Paris is signed. -
Treaty Of Paris
Treaty signed between Great Britain and the colonies that ended the revolutionary war.
