  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Great Britain passed a law requiring colonists to pay tax in the form of stamps on certain documents. Refusing to use the stamps, colonists burned them and started riots.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    Colonists were forced to find quarters or living space for the British soilders stationed in America. The colonists saw the Quartering Act as another attack on their rights.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British troops quarted, opened fire after being harassed by the colonists leading to the deaths of 5 colonists. Colonists and Samuel Adams demaned the removal of British troops from Boston.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    1 million dollars worth of tea was dumped into the Boston harbor. .This lead to the brititish closing it down.
  • Intolerable Act

    Intolerable Act
    A series of punitive laws were passed by British Parliament and the colonists agreed to halt exports to Britian as well as support Massachutes if it was attacked.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    The meeting of delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies. They discussed the current situation with Britain including the Intolerable Acts, which the British Parliament had imposed on Boston as punishment for the Boston Tea Party.
  • Sugar Act

    Parliament put a tax on sugar and molasses imported from the French and Spanish West Indies. Merchants disliked this they feared it would hurt the rum industry. The cry of "no taxation without representation became a major issue.

    The first military engagement of the American Revolution. 700 British Army regulars were ordered to capture and destroy military supplies that were reportedly stored by the Massachusetts militia at Concord.
